The name of the assoc is the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia, not the Caravan Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia.
I'm trying to understand the desperation of some to join, is it for the financial benefit?
As a matter of interest the CMCA has installed subsidised dump points all over Australia, mostly free to use by members and non members alike.

There is no answer to your question.
Like any club the CMCA has elections , has a constitution and the members decide who can be members.
There is no doubt in the minds of the CMCA members about thetopics you are questioning and they have voted several times that they want to remain a Motorhome and Campervan Club.
Some figures suggest that there are 10 times more caravans on the road than motorhomes.
Why is there not a caravan club doing the same as the CMCA ?
There have been many caravan clubs over the years and what has happened to them ?
The motorhome people are on a winner and want it to stay on the present course.
The 5th Wheeler issue was approved years ago and the members have no problems with that.
Caravan people have asked to join and have agreed that if they join it will be as an associate member only without voting rights and pay the same membership fees and have all other benefits.
These benefits are increasing all the time.
The club is an outstanding success and provides benefits to all members and non members.
Now why would we change ?

I am trying hard to get my opinion across and this may help some understand why some members of the CMCA do not want the Caravan people as full voting members.
I am well aware of arguments that say
what is the difference ? What matters whether one drives a motorhome or tows a Caravan ?
The answer isdoes not matteras far as normal day to day camping is concerned.
The issue is a political one.
We see every day in politics what can happen even when some politicians have a good intention the system brings them down.
With the Caravan issue it has been proven time and time again that whenever a start is made to provide a club type organization for the Caravaners it comes unstuck. It is beyond my scope to explain why this happens.
My view is that for some reason the vested interests of Caravan Parks , Caravan suppliers and all other caravan interests want to manage the club in a way that makes more money or gives them some prestige. This results in a Toxic political situation that does not have the members concerns at heart.
It is not the people towing the vans that are different it is the people who use the organization for their gain that are Toxic.
The CMCA members are proud of what we have and are only trying to protect our club.
This is a complex thing and I am not trying to stir the pot I am only saying what I feel.
I am only 1 member with 1 vote.
I have tried to explain my personal view and I do not intend to keep on about it .
I think this is my last word in this thread and thanks to all for taking part.

It would seem, it is to do with the location of the tow hitch.
Fifth wheelers have a hitch forward of or above the towing vehicles rear axle(s).
One of our members Collyn, has some thoughts on the concept.

Ps Legend has it, that a former director purchased a fifth wheeler and they were then approved as above.

CMCA are buying up sites that were for caravans and motor homes ,now the poor old caravaner has to join a motor home club that does not really want anything to do with them,so they can access these places they used to go too ,sounds fair enough ,cant wait till they take a lot more over

I have nothing against/for the CMCA, and have no intention of of taking any strong view, for or against
I can see the benifits of the organisation, and believe that many, (if not all), of the dump points outside a caravan park, were put in place with their assistance, so credit where credit is due
As there appeare to be a few CMCA members on this forum, I ask a question from them
Are there any plans to open up any CMCA sites in Western Australia?

I for one am not "desperate" to join but would consider it, as I stated earlier. Yes, just for financial reasons.
I'm not sure that I could stand being a second class member though. A bit like the old Associate (female) Members of Golf Clubs I suppose.
Perhaps they should have added '5th wheeler' to their title.
In relation to another comment about a past Official having a 5th Wheeler, I seem to recall that the 'Owner/Operator of the Narabeen Lake CP at Sydney was a high flier in that org & every time I stayed there his CP was full of 5th Wheelers who got a substantial discount. I wonder if there was some connection there. I heard that he got the rights/purchased a CP at Ballina too. Might just be rumours though.

What question?????????, I was trying to find out the facts and made a comment.
