I knew I'd seen that place somewhere - wouldn't come to me, Ceduna was the closest.
We have been in Victoria since just before Christmas - son has a property, and we are camped up. Leaving just after Easter, got a commitment in QLD in early May, then thinking might head to Darwin, then maybe down the middle, and back over here - we are near Avoca on the Sunraysia Highway. Has been beautiful.
Love the milk out of coconut - but the teeth can't chew the flesh anymore.
Enjoy your trip, and Crystal Brook is a lovely spot. If you are going thru Mannum at all, a member from here lives on a houseboat - friend of ours - Brian - and if you are interested in lithium batteries another guy - TerryTI has a workshop in Mannum - nice spot.
You guys take care and stay safe as well.

I think they need to change their mentality (and I'm a west Aussie before you start flaming me).
They have a very backward mentality surrounding tourism and outsiders.
I think they're starting to wake up to the benefits (towns such as Kulin). It'll just take a while. They don't call it Wait Awhile for nothing.

I say again the big cost of getting around WA is the amount of diesel you need to buy due to the distances. Most everything else is about the same and allowing for the distance goods need to travel. CPs are no different to the East and now are starting to let your pet stay in the past couple of years. There are free and low cost camping options such a farm stays and shire overnight stops and limited duration camp sites just look in at WikiCamps, Youcamp etc. Kurin is top of the tree and there are other shires helping us out. But more will only follow if campers stop abusing and messing the camp sites up and start taking ALL there rubbish with them. Too much toilet paper flying around and stuck in bushes and overflowing bins. Grey water turned into muddy puddles, and yes left by those who have holding tanks as well. I am not a fan of inbuilt grey water tanks because most get emptied either at a bush camp or on the road. But capture your grey water in a bucket and put it around the bushes away from camp sites, not too hard. Thats unless told otherwise.
The one thing that was and may still be expensive over her in WA is a cup of coffee. $4 or $5 is a bit steep IMO but it might be that price over the other side by now!
I am quite happy for Eastern Staters to stay away, more room for us but they will be missing out on seeing and experiencing a third of this great country. And dont just drive around route1 and think you have seen WA!

I didn't find WA too expensive. As said you use a lot of fuel. Coffee is at least $5 here in the east.
One thing, CP's are expensive. About the same as over east, but they are mostly dry & dusty, lack fresh water in lots of places and power can be supplied as 10amp from a generator if at all. Except in the larger towns, washers & dryers are non existent. Facilities are old and dirty in lots of places also. At least, when you pay $35 in the east they are reasonably comfortable. Parrabadoo(spelling?) had the most wonderful CP and coffee though and very reasonably priced.
We free camped 90% of the time and because we were fully self contained, didn't worry us too much.
I loved WA but it is a bit too far away to do it again. But, then again, who knows what will happen next.

You can't have it both ways WA.
I was born in WA, but have always been progressive, and left early enough to form some great enlightened views. It saddens me that West Aussies have these views, such as eastern staters stay away.
It is one of the most isolated cities in the world though, and it shows unless you broaden your horizons early on.

Grubby, Think you need to read the words not what you want the words to say. Nobody has told Eastern Staters to stay away. If you read my posts on this subject you will see that I have stated more than once that WA is no more expensive that the East. But what is expesive is the amount of diesel one needs to tour WA and that you cant see the good bits just by staying on Route 1.
In fact your comments about Broome are disppointing especially after your strange comment on here. I spent half my life in WA coming here in my 30s I am very glad I made that choice and as stated I am happy if others dont want to come. Seems you are one of them!

i just mean mean a lot of West Aussies have these attitudes about (particularly) Eastern Staters. It's a shame and I think a lot of people listen to those kind of words, and don't continue to come after they've seen it once.
As for Broome post......not sure what was strange about it aside from having to 'protect' myself from appearing racist like everyone is inclined to jump on these days. But the truth is....going to Broome and dodging human excreta and humbuggers, doesn't make for an appealing town.
