I agree John the white ute seemed to have plenty of time to let the motorhome move over in order to take the exit road but maybe the ute driver wasnt concentrating and didn,t see the MHs indicator or maybe he just chose not to. Maybe the MH driver wasnt aware that a large truck was behind him or he probably wouldnt have risked stopping or maybe when he realised that the ute wasnt going to let him in and he just panicked and hit his brakes. Too many maybes for me to make a call on the guilt of each person but accidents happen when all the ducks line up fortunately this time they didnt. I know from past experience if I was the MH driver I would have copped an earful from the copilot for swearing as I sailed past the exit and then driven an extra 10kms until I found another opportunity to get off. Needless to say when shes navigating she usually lets me know 100mtrs before an exit that I should be in the other lane.

As A K said so many scenarios . I think more video before and after the incident is needed. I wonder if the motor home has moved to the right hand lane to allow other vehicles to merge onto the freeway and then could not get back over for his turn off, he was guilty off being to courteous to the vehicles pushing through on his left, I would have moved across at least on the Ute but it takes a while to get to judge the length off your vehicle and the speed of others, with some modern mirrors that often distort distance. As for the truckle he is a professional and didn't seem to have a lot of problems. Landy

I wonder what the opinion of the armchair lawyers here would have been if the video had been taken from the front of a motorhome, and a truck had been the transgressor?
I suspect they would have been a lot less forgiving of the truck driver, than they seem to be of this motorhome driver!

Gday...
Point taken ....... however, if a truck, with indicator flashing for many metres, was refused access to the left lane by inconsiderate, thoughtless drivers in the left lane (car, motorhome or another truck) and then consequently had been isolated and stranded across two lanes and forced to grind to halt to avoid causing a multi-vehicle accident I, for one, would have the same opinion.
However, let's be quite frank here ... there would not a single truck driver that would have allowed themselves to be stranded across two lanes by inconsiderate drivers ... the truck driver would have just continued to squeeze across, slowly praps .. but would not have stopped.

John,
I think you're right, a truck may well have begun to merge and "forced the issue" to get into the lane. or cross the traffic.
With respect to this incident though, my thoughts were this. Bear in mind I base this on evidence available , that being just the video. I cannot make suppositions about why the motorhome was in the right hand lane, as I have no information.
The motorhome should never have got themselves into the position to be caught in the normal right hand side overtaking lane.
1) I presume he knew what his destination was.
2) I presume he knew that his destination would not be on the freeway, and he would need to exit the freeway to get there.
3) I would hope he was aware enough of his route to have had a reasonable idea where he was in relation to his destination, and where when his exit would be encountered.
4) As such, a little forethought would have suggested that getting into the left hand lane, adjacent to the exit lanes, well in advance of the exit, would have been sensible.
I think the motorhome was at fault, and can be thankful they didn't cause a major accident. Once he had effectively missed the exit and been prevented from crossing to it, they should have continued to the next exit and then found their way back to their destination.
At least it appears no one was hurt.

I was unable to view the video, only the pictures from rocky
In my opinion, the only person not at fault was the truck driver
If I had been the motorhome driver, I would have kept going until the next turnoff, I would not have stopped in front of the truck
If I had been the car or ute driver, I would have let the motorhome come across to the left lane
Regardless of who was in the right or wrong, if the truck driver had not been observant, here could have been a nasty accident

rockylizard what makes you think the motor home was forced to stop??? i saw nothing that forced him to stop any one with a brain would of continued on and got off on the next off ramp by stopping he very nearly was the cause of an accident and i recon there was plenty of room for him to have merged across in front of the ute i cant believe any one would just come to a halt on a freeway as he did

I know this is a traveling gray nomad forum .There is no reason to stop and iâm Pretty sure unless there is a reason or told to by police, traffic control, RTA etc . It is against the law to stop in any lane . No point trying to make excuses !! Imo there should be more vids of them for younger inexperienced drivers to see how easy things can go wrong .

From the road traffic rules in NSW.
pretty strait forward really, the driver of the motor home DID NOT know the rules
