The religion question mentioned above is if all those who don't go to church or affiliate with a Christian religion say NO Religion and all the Muslims tick their religion then we could end up being classified as a Muslim country.

Plenty of comment in the media saying that being honest with the "no religion" bit will not change percentages in favour of the Islam followers in any way. In fact, the more no religion people we have, the less influence the religious mob, of any flavour, will have on any social policies. The census question might get more accurate data if they asked how many times you went to church last year.

I had a robust discussion with a Witness some time ago. When I challenged her, she admitted that she had never read The Bible (she had converted from Catholicism). In fact I'd be willing to bet that, aside from the clergy and lay people, less than 100 Australians will have read the Bible from cover to cover. OTOH, I understand that all Muslims have read the Koran (I have a copy, but I couldn't get past the point where Mohammed told me that he didn't like me).

I have several translations/interpretations of the Qur'an/Koran & can't make head nor tail of any of it. Suppose that I'll keep trying until I can get a version that I can understand.

I have read most of the Bible but way back in my youth when I was a boy Sunday School teacher.
I'll be describing myself as a (CofE) Christian in the census despite not having been to church for decades .. & providing my name as I have done in all previous census(es?).

Ok just logged on to do the online form to be told my operating system is to old and will not support the program they are using . So may have to buy a new computer to be able to fill out the census online .

Had the paper census form delivered to the door a few days ago, using the number on the form, completed online today.
Simple process, no hiccups, took about 5 minutes.

Did ours on line today ..... Easy. No probs. Don't know what all the fuss is about.
BTW .. Told them that we are Cof E, & that they can release full details in 99 years or whatever.

Isn't it hypocritical that the pollies reckon that submitting personal data via an online census is secure while submitting a simple yes or no vote via an online plebiscite, or a trivial numbering of squares on an e-ballot, are not?

Dorian, I invariably find myself liking the way you think.... Pollies have nothing to lose if you state you are Mohave Indian and you are an Emissary of Divinal Lights in your census...however they have plenty to lose=their privileged livelihoods if you vote by e-ballot....they need to know you are not being coerced whilst you vote....or someone else doing it for you.....likewise with any upcoming plebiscite if it ever happens...Gov't is obviously desperate for that not to succeed and stand a better chance of that not resulting in a positive vote, if voters are dragged out once again to vote in the booths....happy to spend M$160 to hopefully have it ditched?...which they state they may not take notice of a positive result, in either case.......they wonder why they have little respect from Australians today..
Real Estate Agents and others pay big money to be able to 'exploit' the results of Collective Census information....with their targeted/demographic marketing campaigns...money to be made out of this ""important"" information...isn't that what 'drives' Australia today...self perceived money/wealth/power.....individual information may not be shared but 'collective' information certainly is and has been for years.....
The old chestnut of Hitler using Census information in targeting Jews prior to WW2...may well be' reason' for Australians to consider carefully the 'information about themselves they share in the Census...perhaps I'm growing toooo cynical and less trustworthy in my old age..

Are you disputing the fact Real Estate Agents and other 'business' pay big money for collective census information to assist their targeted marketing activities?........as a Registered Real Estate Agent in a previous life I can assure you they do rely heavily on all the info gleaned from Census and pay those that extract it for their use..so do Real Estate Developers.....I realize that Local Govt's use the info for the betterment of their Planning decisions etc which is a positive....but there is undoubtedly money to be made out of the collective info we provide...fact!.....Hoo Roo

So is that a problem?
Much rather a targeted program than a scattergun approach.
As I see it there are benefits to us from more targeted Govt activity/expenditure and to have them offset the cost of the exercise by selling certain of the data then that's a good thing too.
Having done the form I could find nothing in there that I be concerned about.
re a previous post .. I find that making a direct comparison between a Census & Voting a bit of a stretch.

I cant remember the last time I completed a census
Been on the road since 2008 and never done one in that time. When I started I did not have a TV and I have never bought a paper so would not have even known there was one.
Even missed the first QLD election and got a fine and when the letter actually found me about 6 months later I rang then and told them where I was and my situation and they waved the fine and registered me as a interant traveler(of what ever it is) and I never have to vote again if I don't want to.
I have no letter so no number etc so will see what happens.

Why didn't the census ask (optionally) whether people identified as heterosexual, homosexual, or other?
Why couldn't we have answered the upcoming homosexual marriage plebiscite as an additional question on the census?
