Most of the van parks on the foreshore in this area are council owned and some of the most expensive in Australia.
Some of the talk (Conjecture) around town is that they have to make them pay to keep the developers at bay who have there greedy eyes on the land.
I spoke to one of the Councilors who said they were considering some self contained sites along the Bruce Highway.

Sending off as fast as possible so keep sending me possible councils or their email addresses. Will post a list of those to whom I have sent in the next few days.

I must concur with other forumites. Well done Phil.
I have been an advocate for our right to Bush or free camp for years. Correspondence has been forwarded to the Tasmanian authorities re the price of travel and the C.Park owners objecting to our travel habits in Tasmania.
Also to many other councils. Now Rockhampton has introduced a 48 hr stop over and we have cut and posted the info from the local paper and forwarded to the Mayors of Cairns, Townsville, Hervey Bay Toowoomba Mackay, just to name a few.
Very little response if any was received.
We must keep " Our Dream Alive" by lobbying all the authorities who have any control and say over our rights to bush and free camp. We do use C.Parks when forced to like Harvey Bay, but it is on our terms if and when we want to visit and stay in a C.Park.

Phil,
All councils belong to a Local Government Association, LGA and you can get all council addresses and mayors and CEO's from there.
For SA go to this link and this also gives you the link to the rest of Australia's sites. It's a Word document.
This will be a huge job Phil. Send your letter by email to the CEO and the Mayor as the CEO should put it on the Council Agenda.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Di

Di. This is great. Thank you. Have sent to about 8 councils so far and it has been hit and miss in terms of looking up addresses. Your links here are terrific. This will help me organise it better. Much appreciated. See you all on the road. Freedom camping hopefully.
cheers
