I had few options at the start but a positive attitude has made it all happen very well for me, just read my posts and blog to see how I have been able to upgrade to a Coaster and live on the road whilst on a pension. If I had taken notice of the wot ifs I wouldn't have the memories and lifestyle that I have now. John

I lost everything in a house fire and for the first two weeks I would think to myself... I'll put on a favourite jumper or play my guitar or read my books and then I would realise that I didn't have them anymore. As time moved on I began to be grateful that I was still alive and oh thank goodness I didn't need to pack up and move a great load of stuff. I used to play in a band and had three huge bags of photos that I couldn't throw out, they were now gone. No guilt. All those things that I kept for sentimental reasons. Gone. I felt free and light and now five years later I still think long and hard before I buy stuff. Do I really want it, I usually come up with no, not really. The more stuff I load myself down with the less space I have to relax in. The harder it is to find things in the cupboard and the more weight in Gus the bus. Give me a comfy chair to sit in under the annex, a cup of tea in my favourite mug, nature surrounding me,and aaaah!!!!! bliss I am in heaven. Lynne

Well my dad always wanted to travel more than they did but mum wasn't ready to go they did do two trips around this great island of Oz and loved it, eventually when Mum was ready Dad was not well enough to travel much (WW2 service ) so I lived there regrets and said to my self I will travel when I can did a fair bit before I gave away half my food just to get the other half cooked our three kids are now grown and have there trades to sustain them ( mechanic , electrician ,& nurse ) proud of them all , I said to the cook a few years ago that I wanted a van and to travel round Oz she asked who I was going with I said on my own if I have to ,luckily she has now come around and we have bought our first van probably about 1 year earlier than planed but the right van came up so we bought it , so some trial runs are in the wind for next year as a farmer it's not easy to just sell up and go as where we live was originally settled by my grandfather so there is a strong bond here it's been our family home for far to long to sell but son #1 wants to be a farmer so when he is ready to take over we will back out slowly Sues long service is not due for another 18 months so that's our time frame at the moment reading all of the stories on this forum is so inspiring I can't wait to go it won't be easy to leave my life's work and move on but I want to do it while I can still work at other part time jobs if that's what fits when we travel this great land and meet the great people all over Oz especially the people (nuters ) on this forum I recon I'll fit in well between the wall nuts and the peanuts.

I recall when we were doing a trial run before we left on our trip to Darwin from Vic... we Travelled up to the Grampians and the mrs left behind the Pillow, Sleeping Bags and something else I can't recall, but there was three.. I was servicing while she was packing ... you see....
so we have a HUGE list of things to take with us now that we've got a van... our first couple of Big Trips were on Motorcycles.. but no matter how you do it, DO IT...
