As far as I am concerned (not that my opinion counts) I don't care where people come from, if they are willing to embrace our country and culture and become part of it (I don't meant giving up their religion or cultural things) and are loyal to their new country that's good enough for me.
Lots of good stuff comes from overseas like Gary said, food etc from whatever immigrants and it makes Australia a much more interesting place to live in. Having lived overseas in a mixed cultural Asian country it was such a treat that there were so many choices etc.

Yes, but to be fair, the early ones were fed a crock and ended up in immigrant camps rather than the beachside houses that they were told was common in australia.

Well Spoken, Vic. and '' Spot-on '' imho ? I think that is the Opinon of the MAJORITY of Aussies and your OPINION DOES COUNT ? and so does mine. !!
Your statement, Defines exactly what All other Immigrants did in the past,, They embraced our culture and way of life, and we in turn benefited in so many ways, and also we were invited to share in their cultural celebrations etc, and the Australia we have today, can be attributed to the Input, knowledge, Skills, and Cultures, that the Immigrants from the 50s - 60s and 70s, bought with them,
However " Alas " that was in the days of Intergration, which worked well !! Then some drongo, came up with the word " Multicultural" And from then on Intergration almost disappeared, and different cultures set up their own little conclaves, and in the most part, did Not welcome outsiders in to share
There is Racism in this country, ?? but it is Against the Australians, ? NOT by the Australians .

I believe racism works both ways Dazren, there are hotheads/rednecks/extremists/bigots in EVERY RACE but it does seem successive governments are afraid to criticise newbies other than those who have been here for awhile and proven themselves good citizens.
Even the first known race in Oz have their bigots and racists along with everyone else, nobody is lilly white IMHO.

I abhor the political correctness that is now so ingrained in us all that we self-censor unnecessarily.
Then there is the new national pastime of being shocked and offended. Or is that only the talking heads in the media and those who are getting grants from government?

You can get the shirt or singlet from australian-native.com.au and they throw in a free stubby holder with the message on it. Only problem is that they seem to cater only for the thinner person (i.e they didn't have my size!).

I want one that really tells it as it is.
Something with, "IMPOVERISHED TAXPAYER" on the front.
and on the back,
"Forget it!
My back pocket is empty too!"

I like the sound of that, especially the bit on the back. I have a T shirt that says simply "Broke" on the front, seems to frighten people away though I think they think I am going to ask for a "loan"
