It seems that if you have the money to do it all then you keep your house and rent it out. so you have a base to return to. Because you can.
If you don't have a house then you can't do the above so you don't have that luxury.
I'm debating on not keeping the house but invest the money for however long Centrelink will allow so I don't have the expenses,
then later decide where i want to go, ie about 45 minutes from my kids and then get something.
I don't want a garden and I've always been a gardener...in a past life.

Just a curious question here; How many of you sold up your house completely to go on the road? During our travels, we have met quite a few people who have done that (and new 4X4 and caravan to show for it!) but what happens when they get sick of travelling (or just sick)?
We have kept our house (renting it out) as we will always need somewhere to go back to but what have others done? Curiosity has got the better of me and so I have to ask;
1) How many have gone down this track to fund their rig? We sold our house, but not to fund the purchase of the vehicles...but to put the money into investments to give us a return. We also set up a trust and our son purchased a property and when the time comes that we want/need to squat back down....lo and behold we rent his house from him (still retaining our investment portfolio)
2) What happens when they finish travelling? Sell the rig and rent our son's house off him....He gets perfect tenants and good rental return until the day of departure from this earth.
3) What about their assets? They now only have a rig and no house so how do they propose to survive when finished travelling? Put inplace a plan, discuss your plan with your children and set up a family trust, so everyone in the family is aware of your plans.
4) We all know that what we pay for our rigs, we don't often get back yet property (in general) appreciates. Why would they sell that?
