I think it was originally design to allow the people who work in the sun to start earlier and then get home OUT of the sun earlier in the afternoon. Regards Brian
Not quite right Brian. It was first brought in in Northern Hemisphere Countries where they have far fewer Daylight Hours in Winter.
Even so, I remember going to work and coming home in the dark in Scotland, when we were there in the mid-60's.
As I said previously, I couldn't get used to having to go to bed [ in summer,] in broad daylight. [ like 10.30 pm.]
We really don't need it here.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Here's something to help you remember when to do the clock change:
Spring forward
Fall(autumn) back
I've remembered it ever since I heard this.

I used to always go to work in the dark and come home in the dark as when I worked in abattoirs I had to be at work before the kill started 5:00 and left after the afternoon shift had their break 10:00.
Spent many years at sea working all nights so to me daytime nighttime is just another stage of the day.
Just now I prefer to be up early to get the good photos and see the birds and animals getting out and getting a feed and to see the sun go down at night.
Once the night feed is done and I have cleaned up and the sun fades away it is usually time to go to bed as I normally camp on my own.
Regards
Brian

I had to laugh at my youngest son a couple of years ago. I was bemoaning the fact that it was too hot to sleep thanks to daylight saving as I had to get up at 5am to get ready for work the next day. He started extolling the virtues of daylight savings.
Not long afterwards, he was going crook because the kids wouldn't sleep. It was too light and too hot for them!!
When I retire, I'm going to be like Brian and not going to lets clocks rule my life. Of course, that's not going to stop kiddies at camp-sites making a racket well into the evening!!

I'm from Qld and we don't have D.S. But I have noticed that my years are getting shorter is this because you are saving our daylight and using it in the south?

We surely don't need it in Northern Oz Sheba, just that our Southern neighbours (Mexicans) need more time on their tans!
