I'm not an insecure female. We have quite a few solos of this forum who are Traveling alone.. Marj is one of these friends we have met on our travels. Don't worry about it too much Hokianga. There are heaps of lovely people out there.

I have been solo for more than 30 years. During my travels I have made some great friends, solo and couples. Often one member of a couple is more communicative than the other, but much of this is personality. I have found almost all fellow travellers have been welcoming, often extending to invitation to a meal, or left overs brought by cooks who see me living on cheese and crackers. I appreciate it. I am realistic enough to say that no wife would feel threatened about my being around her husband. The most attractive thing about me is my avatar!

Well our experience is quite the reverse. We rather enjoy the company of solos quite a bit more than couples. In fact we were so taken by the solos network that we wanted to join them. Sadly our application was declined because we are married. We did offer to get a divorce, LOL.

It's been that way forever for Divorcees and new Widows. Wives [a lot, not all,] regard them as threats.

Seriously though if you are wanting company, then there is no point in being bashful. We are always proactive in sussing out fellow travellers. Sometimes you will get the snub, but more often than not a pleasant chat is there for the taking.
Btw that is one nice avatar you have!

A very common occurrence when you are a lone female if on the road or not. More so at home I have found. Like they say it's the other female who has the problem not you, the wonderful thing about this forum and these folk is that we are all here for the same reason, to get out and enjoy ourselves. Don't let their insecurity spoil your journey. In answer to your request, I will be heading north from Bribie but not till mid/late June. However it would be lovely to meet up with you even in Darwin perhaps if not along the way. Cheers Tess

Hi Heather, I do not often write on Grey Nomad site, but just thought I'd let you know just booked my ferry trip from Tas to Melbourne 5th June. I also intend being away 3 months I do this each winter. If later we seem to be around in the same places maybe catch up? I will probably head up Qland way, perhaps fossick a little, then across top end, across to WA, coming back to Melbourne via South Oz, by Sept. I don't hurry anywhere though! Thought you would be interested, spoke to a solo man travelling, he said he sometimes gets same problem with couples, recons the wife chats to him, then hubby starts to glare at him! Guess this is why we tend to keep away from couples more than solo travellers. Shame, as individually the people are really nice! I tend to be a loner by choice, 90% of the time anyway. Vonjean

Hi Vonjean, sounds like a good plan! I have also found another solo traveller who is heading off on his first big trip, so, it will be interesting to se how many solos we meet up with along the way. I need to spend some money getting solar panels plus maybe another water tank- or is 80 litres plenty even up north? I have managed well so far! By the way, if you are heading toward Phillip Island give me a pm, you are welcome to park up at my place, it would be on the street though but it is very quiet and the road is fairly wide. Not sure where I land. Im about to start a 6-7 month solo trip Adelaide, Broome Brisbane Canberra Adelaide. But Im not single - partner suggested I do it and I'm jumping at the opportunity. Looking forward to meeting fellow travellers Who knows I just might make some more detours after Canberra to visit more of the family!
