That's good. Heard about a fella who was free parking and was parked near someone with a very noisy generator. He was asked to turn it off in the middle of the night, but he refused, so by around 2am there was an almighty bang and "someone" had put a bullet through the generator. Needless to say they left very early in the morning. Could this have been you????? I am sure not........................

100% not me chicken, if i was to discharge my Sporting Firearm like that I would loose the lot, the cops would be on my doorstep ASAP, even getting into any argument of any description would cause me no end of problems, and over a noisy generator, NOT worth it !!!!! Only Crims discharge "Weapons" in the wrong place & the wrong time.
Agree Sheba even a "Funnel web" would live past my camp site, let them alone is what i say,

Last place we pulled over at was north of Rolleston QLD, it was getting late like 9.00pm everywhere else was taken up by trucks which can be good.This place was nice and quite alittle off the road, didnt here a thing all night. Got up at 7.00am surrounded by trucks I was shocked that Ididnt here them pull up, but felt very safe knowing that they where there.

Thanks for your reply Major. We also have been to Rolleston Qld. and enjoyed the 2 nights there. Best T.V. reception and radio. Quite a nice little park as well, nothing special but nice and clean.

Hi chicken, hope you are enjoying your travels. We have always free camped, but never game to leave the van unattended either. Realizing there is a need for more places for people to be able to safely leave their van for any length of time, we now offer that choice. We are on 98 acres just 19 klms nth of Bundaberg, and have a bush camp by a lake. We do charge $10 night, and that covers maintenance costs. We also enjoy meeting other Grey Nomads and having a chat by the fire at night. It's certainly a great lifestyle!!

If everyone says they will only free camp where others have already set up, ...yeah we have a problem. OK, it doesn't bother me and I'm sure there are a enough others. But you could bring us a beer or a cuppa for providing this service!

We love free camping and mostly only go to CP's to do the washing and sightseeing.
Left our van at Gregory River and drove into Lawn Hill for the day, no problems. 4 vans there when we left and about 20 when we got back. Also left the van at Longreach free camp while we did the sightseeing stuff. No problems . We don't leave chairs, tables or anything outside that may tempt someone to take them. Barry has fitted all the usual locks etc to the hitch and we even have a wheel clamp, so we feel fairly well protected but you just never know.
We Never stay when no one else is around, I wouldn't sleep a wink. Lots of people don't worry about that but we do.
oops sorry about that we did once just outside Harden last July we were going to Griffith to drive up the Kidman Way. Got to Harden and I was as sick as a dog, said to Barry I don't care where we stay I am too sick to care. Stayed a freezing night at the free camp woke up to ice and frost all over the car and van. Drove onto Griffith and then I knew I was too sick to go any further. Barry drove me back home to Sydney and straight to the Dr. with the van still hitched to the car. I had Pleurisy! Three weeks later we were back on the road.

We are on 20 acres just 30 minutes from Townsville, and 5 mins from Cungulla Beach and would like to offer something similar for Nomads looking for somewhere to leave their gear while buzzing about the area. We did the around Ausie thing, loved it but don't take the van out much these days, Just far to expensive in the Parks while maintaining costs associated with the family home.

Hi chicken & welcome! We too love travelling and free camping, but we're not keen on crowds, so always look for somewhere we can be on our own. So far, we have found some lovely spots, and every couple of days we book into a park.As someone else said, if you want to go sightseeing, it's a little risky.
That's why, when we came back home last time, (as we are still working)we decided to make it possible for Grey Nomads to be able to set up and safely go away for the day, leaving the van secure. We opened Binnowee Bush Camp, and do charge $10 a night, as we keep the site nicely mowed etc. We have met some lovely people this way too, and enjoy talking about their travels.
Anyway, good luck, and safe travelling!!!

We often free camp in motorhome. Find it safer to either camp in town or way out of towns.. On the outskirts there seems to be the local idiots.. Funny I carry witches hats, men working sign put around motorhome when I park up near beach etc so the locals think we are water board, breathalyser etc..

We have a grassed area by the dam, and it is very private, can't see the dam from the road and it is a safe, private spot where campers can leave the van and go off for the day. Must be self sufficient tho as we don't have power or water supplied.

We have done a lot of free bush camping too,the main thing is not to camp within 20 kms of town.
Always safest if others join you or get there when there are others already set up.
We once had a dingo carry off our portable loo for about 50 metres.
Never leave your shoes on the ground,dingos favourite toys.

Have done a few nights free camping, i never disconnect car , park in a way that i coulld drive off quickly, park so no one can get next to me and block opening van door. I try to not be visable from rd. It is really nice stopping adhoc, and quiet. We try to put a few free nights into our time away to lower average cost. Enjoy.
