What a gorgeous woofer. I have an Australian terrier who looks a lot like her. Unfortunately she is very old and won't be with me for much longer but she has been the absolute best companion for nearly 15 years now.
Hi Elle, I am one of 13 kids, and I have a lot of friends. So I am travelling across to Margaret River at the moment , very slowly Staying with family and friends most of the time while in Victoria, also whilst I was travelling from Qld and through N.S.W. I have only been travelling full time for around 4 months.
Nice to hear from you Charming

Hi Ken n Gloria, I forgot to mention that sometimes when my Peppa starts shaking, I rest a small blanket over her head and try to get her to sit and drop. Sometimes this trick works, just depends , they are beautiful but fickles litttle darlings.

Hi again,Charming here. I have just travelled from Victoria to Margaret River W.A with my faithful companion Peppa. She did really well, I have worked out that she definately will shake for 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour when we first take off, I don't take much notice of her, just give her a slow pat now and then and she calms down. I feel that she is always going to have the shakes for a while when we start off , and that is not going to change. She's just a nervous nelly. She and I have the front seat to ourselves, this might help. All the best to Ken & Gloria, I hope you have worked out some sort of program with Chloe

Chloe has survived her first longish trip, actual travelling time about 11/2 hours but with stops to meet friends it was about 2 hours she was in the car.We gave her half a sedative tablet and it worked very well. I built her a elevated car seat so she could look out of the window, she loved the caravan, hopping in & out whenever she wanted and we took her for lots of walks. It was a very quiet caravan park so she was`nt hassled by a lot of noise. We were there for 5 days. We gave her another 1/2 tablet to bring her home and it worked well also. Fingers are still crossed for when we have our next trip, probably about 3hrs.but we are pleased as punch with our little lady. Cheers Ken & Gloria.

Nice to hear things are working out. Maybe next time cut her pills back a bit more, and see how she relaxes without them.
Good job

I have to agree, great outcome. And yes, try to cut back a bit if you can and see how she goes.

That is great progress. Hopefully after a few trips she will be fine with the car travel. I also think it's worth cutting back the meds a little but see how she goes. A little bit of medication once in a while won't do any harm. I used to have a dog who was totally freaked out by thunderstorms and fireworks and there was nothing I could do in terms of training or conditioning because the trauma was so severe. I used to try and give her meds an hour or so in advance to avoid the worst of it.

Yes it is Spook she's doing so well on her heart pills it's hard to believe she won't be around for much longer. As long as she's comfortable she will be here.

Hi I had the same sort of problems with my dog, she also has seperation anxiety. I went to the vet and she also does dog traininsg etc, they all suggested I put her in a pet carrier (she used to have a booster seat) now she doesnt seem to get so anxious. I think its because she cannot see whats going on outside..Hope this helps

Hi Kerry welcome to the forum. Are you a solo traveller? Do you have plans to be on the road and what sort of dog do you have?

Hi Ken and Gloria,
Sorry to here you were having difficulties with Chloe, but looks like you are making progress. Wanted to share this pic with you. Coco is the little one at the front and Buddie is the one at the back. We did the Around Aus trip with these two. They had their buster seats in the back and travelled pretty well - Except for the dreaded 'Cattle Grids' on some roads. They really upset the dogs, and it takes them a little while each time to get over it.
One of the ways we tried to take their mind of it was, as we saw the Grid approaching, we would turn up the radio and starting singing. It helped.
Anyway, good luck, and happy travels with Chloe. Alan
Cheers to all.
