You are so right Jon, sitting here today reading and watching a bit of TV and mulling over where, when and how. I have really itchy feet and so annoyed I'm not already out there. I watch travel shows on TV and I'm salivating. Turned out to be two on Qld on today including the Rainbow beach area and Fraser Island. Oh damn, why aren't I already up there instead of here in this cold hole. As you say CG, if I can do it anyone can and if I want to get out there so soon after all the troubles it all can't be half bad. Just trying to work out money, dates etc to try and get away soon and if only for a 3 or 4 week period will do me for now till after grandbaby is born, then off again.
Good for you girl! At least you haven't dropped your bundle and given up on the travel plans. Take your time, and it will happen. Don't rush it. Give yourself a chance to enjoy it. By the way, have you had a diagnosis on Myrtle yet? I for one am keen to hear what's doing on with her. While I'm not a mechanic, I can usually diagnose some mechanical problems, and if it's minor, maybe even fix it. But your Myrtle has got the best of us beat. Standing by for further "Myrtle bulletins".

Hi Aunty
Welcome
When I first got my Hiace - couldn't get much sleep as the bed was hard and uncomfortable. An egg-shell mattress. available from foam rubber stores, did the trick and now the campervan bed is more comfortable than my bed at home. A back annexe is also a good way of creating some space.
Cheers

Thanks ZJ, I like the back annex idea. I am planning to not have a home other than the van while I am travelling so i need a bit of comfort and room [if possible]

The eggshell idea from ZJ is spot on. It's made the world of difference to my hi-ace, leaping out of bed with no stiffness ! (leaping maybe a slight stretch of the truth ;) )

Myrtles booked in for this Wednesday so will have some news after that. Financially I can't see me going anywhere at this stage Sheba. Its going to take a while to get any money together after this and saving up for a new inhouse battery. What date were you planning on coming down. It doesn't warm up till at least October/November down here. Thats why I was hoping to get back up to the warmth for a break from this miserable weather.

Thanks for the update HW. When the time is right you'll know when everything is ready. In the mean time use the pensioner's free train pass and do a trip to somewhere. It's cold everywhere. A mate of mine is working on roadworks up the Gibb River Road in the Kimberley and he's complaining about the cold nights. In Adelaide we're under a strong-wind warning, storms and hail have been forecast. So I'm sitting her hanging on, keeping warm.

We are supposed to get all that tomorrow too CG with temp down to 12. Won't be going outside. I need to go down to Geelong to visit the rellies on the free train passes anyway so might as well do that while I am saving and getting organised. Even if not much can be done for Myrtles motor except buying the right sort of oil etc, I need to do a few more things before heading out on the road. Have to weigh up just what is most important then go about getting prices. At least trip to Geelong will cost me very little as will stay with sister at no cost. So good chance to save up more. See what happens after Wednesday.

If I remember rightly, I think Jules was thinking November some time. I'll be catching up with her before that though, and we'll probably work out a definite date then, if that's OK with her.
I'll have to get a couple of new tyres before we leave.
Cheers,
Sheba.

I'm still not sure of my movements after leaving here .. but last year I headed South far too soon ..
So I really don't wish to be around NSW before November .. mind you, I often find a spot that sorta gets me to stay .. so I could turn up anywhere at anytime.
I am one though that does try to avoid the cities and large gatherings .. love the peace and serenity where stress levels don't exist ..
.. but friends is good .. can't have too many !

Hi there
For inspiration and courage grab a copy of "Baked Beans in the Outback and Curry in Kashmir" - by Mary Taylor
Mary has driven her Honda Jazz around Australia some 17 times and was still going strong at 90.
It's a real inspiration

I have been following Mary Taylor for years on TV , she is an inspiration. I can't work out how to get the book though. There is only ever her address or the book shop. No phone number and they don't say how to order and pay for it. Is it in other book shops or somewhere you can contact them with payment details to have one posted out.
