When we are frequently told they are "not made for Australian conditions" we answer, "that's Ok we don't tour Australia."
Snobbery is out there alive and well.
Dusty
Can well imagine Dusty. Some years ago my brother sold his farm and went on the road with a large 5th wheeler... they called it their "Block of Flats". They felt ostracised by the other travellers and were very disappointed after hearing so much about meeting friendly people along the way. Snobbery works in all directions
We all have to give everybody a chance, and be friendly, before we write them off as "Too rich, too poor etc" and snub them.

Well, we live full-time in a 5th-wheeler (as pic.), fully built in Aus and no fancy slide-outs (extra weight, something else to go wrong); it's our 4-room flat on wheels. We belong to the CMCA - particularly good for the Ken Tame insurance - but are quite aware that a small core of members are hostile to 5th-wheelers: 'they're goose-neck caravans!'. Their loss, say we!
But although our van is 25'6" and a bit taller than average, we've never struck any real unfriendliness on the road, either in parks or free-camps (although we avoid rallies - too many people!). What's more, we enjoy talking to anyone else - even the 'Wicked' campers!
I think that associate membership of the club is useful for anyone, but the other caravan and camping clubs seem to be working with the CMCA now to lobby for travellers.
Meanwhile, happy and safe travel, all - in whatever!

Are you talking about the CMCA or the CMCA forum (which is available to ALL members of the CMCA)? Either way, your "words" are absolute rubbish!

Search me, brickies - and that's why there was, I'm told, a heated debate about the issue within the club before the motion was carried. We knew nothing about this when we first joined as associates, before we had any vehicle at all. There is, of course, a difference in configuration - but we just call ours an 'articulated motorhome'!

Andrea you are right it is all in the wording very clever and Jimricho is right about respect for Superiority , the lower class would not think of such clever words , I still don't mind mixing with the lower class make me feel really great, enough fishing for now

Love the term "mobile 5 star bathroom."
This could be used to describe so many may even use it myself for our Mobile House.
I always say we are Un-employed, Homeless and living on the street.

Alan8888,
You've got a deal, you use our phrase and I'll adopt yours.
Just a little concerned that if overheard by the police it may come under the definition of "vagrancy" What the heck, I'll go with it.
Cheers
See you on the street.

Jeez Dusty, you certainly do have a lot of explaining to do.
You should have stuck with the sailing.
As long as you're happy and safe, and the van is adequate for your needs, whole the bl..dy hell cares!?
We travel for all sorts of reasons with many goals and destinations. How we do it in what doesn't matter. It's about getting out there and travelling.
These and other topics are great discussions at happy hour. Cheers!

Hi Gran,
"Happy hour?"
Why do they call it "Happy Hour?"
People just sit there and grumble about their aches and pains, the weather, the roads, the price of fuel, etc. etc.
We prefer to call it "Sundowners"
But, whatever we call it, may it live on forever.
Cheers
Dusty
PS> Have just returned from 3 days away sailing.
