We still have a landline handset connected at home as we still need the landline to get broadband into the house. No Naked available here.
If power or service provider go down we would use the home phone then.
We are on the Home Basic rental for about $21 a month.
Our ISP is Internode costing $49 per month for 50 gig at 1.5M/256k speed.

If the power goes down could you not just use your mobile phone? I can't imagine too many of us don't have a mobile.

i have broadband connected via the land line we hardly make any phone call on the land line.
question can i get rid of the telephone side of the land line but still use the line for the internet connection. what i'm trying to do is get rid of the cost of quarterly line rental. if i can i will start using the voip system. hope that makes sense. the other alternative is go wireless.
regards
al.

If you have the land line conected you pay rental even if you don't use it. Wireless is OK but just make sure you have reception where you want to use it and shop around for a plan as usual Telstra has the best coverage but they also are the most expensive by far. Wireless is not fast either compared with ADSL2
