G'day. Thanks to the clue from Juergen I believe him to be the Frenchman Louis Bleriot. Aviator inventor and engineer. He won 1000 pounds for being the first to cross The English Channel in a heavier than air craft.
Cheers

Well, there ya go - always wondered where they got the Fokker from in Fokker Friendship!! Many, many years ago flew from Brisbane to Cairns in one of them, way back when Cairns was a small town!
Used to be a saying - "sorry, okker, the Fokker's chocker"

G'day I agree with Sheba. he's on a yacht or sail boat of some kind. is he a fisherman who survived being lost at sea for sometime?
Yes Juergen, your turn. Shutting down now and about to hop in the rig and head off for 5 days.

Probably going to get my head bitten off for this, but it's a perfect example of my complaint weeks ago. Hasn't really gotten much better. Worse if anything.

Both Jeurgen and BG are right, but as BG was the only one to actually name him, it's his turn.
Off you go BG.
