Prepare now for severe weather in parts of Kimberley,
Time of issue: 11:18 AM Date of issue: 12 April 2017
A Tropical Low system lies about 500 km east northeast of Kalumburu and is slowly moving in a west to southwesterly direction. The Tropical Low is expected to move along the north Kimberley coast during Thursday and Friday. The system is no longer expected to become a tropical cyclone, however it may still produce severe weather over the far north Kimberley. This weather system may cause damaging winds to 100 kilometres per hour on Thursday and Friday, which could result in damage to homes and property. Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is possible over the warning area, with the heaviest rainfall expected to be during Thursday and Friday. Higher than normal tides are expected between the Northern Territory Border and Kuri Bay on Thursday, extending to Cape Leveque during Friday and may cause flooding of low-lying coastal areas. Conditions will ease from the northeast during Friday.
ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS:
Roads have been closed including:
Gibb River Road from Blina turnoff (West end) to Mt Barnett - closed to all vehicles over 7 tonne.
Gibb River Road from Mt Barnett to Pentecost River - closed to all vehicles.
Gibb River Road from Home Valley Station to Great Northern Highway (East end) - open to four wheel drives, high clearance vehicles and trucks only.
Water over the road:
Great Northern Highway in both directions, 10 kilometres south of Roebuck Plains Roadhouse - pavement damage under standing water.

For all you travellers, Townsville is perfect! Minimum temps 18-20 degrees, maximums 28-31 degrees, not much pesky rain - just some occasional light showers.
However for us locals, the Ross Dam is sitting at 16% full - pumping from the Burdekin starts at 15% at a cost to the council of $27-34,000 a day!! Level 3 restrictions are in - car washes allowed but you must use a bucket & our gardens get "watered" twice a week for an hour in the early morning & one in the early evening - with hand held hoses.
Unlike most other coastal cities, we have had four failed wet seasons in a row.
Take care & use our water wisely.
Warren
PS - if you have better councils & state pollies, we'll do a swap! Ours are good at talking & planning, talking & planning, talking & planning, talking & planning, & saying "One day it will rain" - so they don't have to do anything!

Townsville - Thursday 18th of May - is BEAUTIFUL!! Heavier rain last night but soaking drizzle now. Max temp today 24 degrees.
37.5mm in the gauge this morning, our main dam (the Ross) is holding at 16% full. They pump from the Burdekin at over $27,000 a day from the Burdekin when it falls to 15%). The Paluma dam (much smaller & supplies the northern suburbs) has 95%.
Does anyone want a few politicians(??) who can do nothing, well?

We're the same Doug. Started yesterday evening. In for a while.
The weather definitely changing though.
10\12\15 yrs ago we had definite WET\DRY.
and often went for up to 8 months with BLACK "grass". b4 wet started again. very rarely less than 5 1\2 to 6 month.. Zero rain.
Was good. No rain = NO grass to cut..
Nowadays. it rains all yr. with maybe 2 months at most without it. Always cutting the bloody stuff.
I HATE GRASS.
PS We lucky. We have a 365 day running creek here with enuff to feed us all in Yeppooon. Till they built all those extra bloody houses. Southerners galore.
The Fitzroy flows through Livingstone Shire for ever. BEFORE running into Rockhampton Shire.
Those Pr-c-s built a pipeline to us while they controlled us.(during Amalgamation) and now charge us for OUR water which flows on to them, to run up the pipe that we didn't want. with water we don't want. to us.. Figure that one out hey.
THAT's Politics for you.
Luckily we North side of town. It don't affect us. we all Waterpark Creek flow.
Politicians are like Unionists.
GOOD ones are DEAD ones.

On the shores of Lake Alexandrina - duck hunting season finished this weekend - the camouflaged shooters have all left - not sure how many ducks were taken, but they pluck them when they get them in the boat, and presumably leave the residue in the water. Nice spot at Narrung - 42k out of Meningee on the Narrung Road, turn at the car wash in Meningee - and keep on to the t-intersection, turn right, and there is the camp. Good toilets and rubbish tins.
There is a shop 5k to the left of the t- intersection, but haven't been there, so not sure what is there. The ferry person selss bags of wood for $7 -big bag.
