It is with great sadness I let you all know that my very good friend ROCKYLIZARD John, passed away early yesterday (Friday) afternoon after a very short battle with cancer.
John and his Wife Julie called in to Townsville where I am as we speak to say hi. As they left John put his arms around me and said goodbye. I now know why. It's normally just a hand shake.
John has requested no funeral.

I never met him personally but always enjoyed his thoughts, his comments and his polite manner in either starting or responding to topics. I was fortunate enough to receive a few direct responses from him and always appreciated his help.
Just makes me stop and think about just how important the present really is.

I too am shocked - have just received his pre-arranged email advising of his death. John was the first nomad I met. I posted on here to say I was at Longreach 7 years ago and John called in to say hello. We kept in touch and met a couple of times over the years, and emailed each other at times. A lovely and very interesting man. I never did get to Sale to see him and meet the family.
Farewell Rocky. You thoughtful advice will be sadly missed on this forum.

The six best doctors in the world are sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence and friends.
I am sure that John would have visited all of the above six.
We have lost another friend, as he is now on another journey.
God bless his family.

So sad to hear this news, Doug. I wish I had the chance to meet him as he came across as a genuine bloke, eager to help anyone or point them in the right direction. Seems he left this world in his own way, on his own terms, and I guess you can't ask for too much more. My condolences to his family, he will be sorely missed on this forum.

Condolences to Rockys family I too enjoyed his input although I never had the pleasure to meet him.
I looked up his profile on here , it would seem he has achieved his stated ambition.
Rest In Peace Rocky .
Gday...
Retired in Dec 2008, bought the van, sold the house and settled into living the nomad lifestyle. In May 2010 bought the LR Discovery 3 to better tow the van. I do occasional harvesting/farm work for the interest and the extra fitness level I gain. Love photography, bushwalking, reading and writing.
I hope to do this until I die - or fail to have sufficient mobility to hitch and/or unhitch the van.
John
Well played Rocky .

We had our differences but, like me, I don't think he took any of it too seriously.
I would just like to add my heartfelt condolences to John’s wife, Julie, his family, and his many friends. To say he will be missed on these pages is a massive understatement. Rockylizard joined the Grey Nomads forum way back in 2009 and, in that time, made nearly 10,000 posts. His knowledge, his kindness and his positivity helped and inspired countless fellow travellers. We will miss him. RIP Rockylizard.
