Ive been reading the blogs and am amazed at how much you all do and see. Do you have to force yourselves to get get up and go and walk miles through the scrub to a waterfall or does it just come easily?
Do you research the must-sees before you arrive at a town/region or wing it when you get there? To those with partners, is one of you more energetic and keen than the other? Do you have a settle-in period or just get out there and do it?

Speaking only for myself, Fine Elsewhere
I just do things which make me happy
I do research places to see, on the internet, and also listen to others in the camps
I plan my trips military fashion at home base, and then throw that plan away, withing the first few days
While travelling on my own, I will walk or bicycle for miles, as that is what I like to do
Travelling with the boss, my walking is usually restricted to walking around the camp, and not taking the bicycle/s with us
For me, forcing myself to do something, would probably take the enjoyment out of it

I like driving around looking for things if interest and use 'Google' a lot to see what might be in the area I am or going to. I like touristy things as well as not so touristy things. I prefer not to spend heaps on sightseeing though.

I like being lazy, after all that's one of the reasons I retired
However, we took up Geocaching as a hobby and that certainly gets us out and about, finding many interesting places.
Our other hobby, classic cars and transport also takes us to many interesting both big and little museums, add to this a dash of military history and there is not much time for anything else apart from enjoying the landscape.

The main thing is to have an interest. We do nature photography but also enjoy many other facets of the places we travel to. We do lots of research before we go. We're interested in
Australian history & early exploration on land & by sea. We bushwalk a lot & enjoy the scenery. Everyone's different. If people enjoy following music festivals around, good on 'em. We love a wide range of music too but avoid crowded situations. Please yourselves.

Collectively it may seem that everyone is doing lots all the time, but if you look individually it may not be quite the case. A bit like kids getting depressed as it seems to them on social media that everybody else is always out having a good time except them.
For me it varies quite a bit. Some places have a lot to see and do and can keep me quite busy, especially if you are on the move. Other places I can be found veging out, not so much because there is nothing to do there, but because I choose to.

Love remote camping, walking along interesting trails, especially up mountain trails. It's the beautiful scenery along the way more than the end destination, nothing to walk 20+Ks.
Also like me fishing with a passion so have really never been bored in the 11+years since retirement, living the good life as a fulltime nomad just wandering around OZ.

If I was on the road full time, I could afford to have lazy days. However, I really want to see as much of this country as I can and can't afford to waste a day doing nothing.
I tend to have a rough plan before I arrive somewhere, by picking up brochures from earlier towns. My plans always change along the way, especially when I hear good reports from others. I travelled way off course and spent the last two days in a place I'd never heard of before, just on the hearsay of others. (They were right)
Sometimes things that don't sound interesting, turn out to be just the opposite so I keep an open mind all the time and plans are made to be broken. Every day on the road is just filled with interesting stuff and I just want to see and experience more and more.

go to bed at around 1-2-3-4am. Get up around 10 to 12am. in time for lunch.
My way of dieting. Miss Brekky....(chuckle)
NEVER do any work in garden b4 mid day. and always leave some for tomorrer.
Go for a walk one day. Bike the next. 30 to 40 min's each. On the hills NOT flat.
When I'm in the mood. sometimes regularly. Sometimes miss a month or three.
The last 70 odd yrs. we've done more than enuff. Now is our time..
I'm lucky I have LOW sugar.
CAn eat lollies whenever. several a day. More if I exert.
Magic. Mars Bar anybody?.
Keep a 1 kg bag of jelly Beans in cupboard, Order of the doc.
and usually have a coupla dark chockie coated Licorice sticks at night.
Yea... Who else can say that then.
Lollies under orders. YEP... GREAT to be old.
And when we fall over. NOOOOO regrets hey.

My two favourite times of the day in the bush are dusk and dawn. A camp fire, a glass of wine/cup of coffee and just the beauty of the bush - what more could one wish?

Like Landfall, we geocache, which takes us to some pretty amazing places, no necessarily on the "tourist route".
We are currently house sitting, and having quite a "lazy time", but on the other hand we can't go out and spend money every day (don't tell Mr D that), so using the time to catch up on craft, reading, computer stuff and maintenance.
Retirement should be a mix of lazy, busy, visit, reading, nothing, everything, catch up, whatever, you name it, what you want/need to do....

Started at sunrise. stopped when you can't see your bucket anymore. Sailing 24\7 for days on end.
Everything starts at 5.30 am and earlier, for 40 yrs.
Trucking starts at 2 am.

I worked for ten yrs once. with only 3 days off one christmas.
Had a new house built and paid cash for it.
I LIKE to Bludge. Don't even take the boat out at 3 am anymore to catch the tide for Barra
and Black Jew.
Spanno's are fine in the mid-day sun. And Cobe's whenever you towing a decent silverside over a ft long.
Plus. Sailing was a 1000 times better drifting along in the dark. bow wave whispering to you.
Leave the blasting round with Turnbuckles making their own bow-wave to the Daylight.
Or Hove to for a coupla hrs.When nobody will bump into you on Autopilot.
They can see you.
Last 10 yrs my life has changed completely around. And I love it.

we look out over the KEPPEL Islands from both decks, upstairs and down.
Hills behind us.
We got a million $$ view sitting in this chair in daylight.
Seen most of Aust. (What I want to see).
Overseas the same.
Geocaching IS interesting.
There's a worldwide club.
People put little notes. Trinkets etc in little containers.
at a spot. Subtly marked.
Sometimes with Lat long to another one.
There is a worldwide Chart. Pick your area. All these little stars? come up with Lat\long in them.
Use Either Phone or H, Held GPS.
Follow instr. Find. Leave your ID. date and time. and go on to next one.
Like i Said. quite interesting.
and that is only real BASIC idea of what it it. serious members will tell you more.
I've done it in Sth America. North. Canada. Egypt. N.Z. UK, Ireland, Wales, and Haggis Land among others.
SOME take a LOT of finding believe me.

Geocaching is a game if you like where you go and find a cache at a latitude and longitude position. Look up www.geocaching.com and it will explain it all. the caches can be small, micro sized, mint containers, Sistema containers, ammo containers or bigger. Use a smart phone or better, a GPS were smart phones are dumb! It is addictive if you like it and a great way to see and find some great history. It is world wide and has many other features such as Travel Bugs, multi caches, mystery caches, earth caches and events where people can meet from all around the world.
You sign the log in the cache and log that you found it on line sharing your story about finding the cache!
Great way of getting out of the lounge chair and getting into the open air!
Why not do some Orienteering, that'll get you off your backside?
It sure beats wasting fuel looking for useless objects.
Great for your fitness & navigation skills.

Hey Doug, I am aware that you know Townsville Backwards, my daughter and her 15month old baby will be visiting us in Townsville during the July school holidays, any tips on what I should take her too or see, I usually just have a couple of games of golf and wander to the beach and around the shops.

Instead of "lazy" perhaps it should ask "How do you stop ourselves from being relaxed?"

Relaxed: 1. being free of or relieved from tension or anxiety: 2. not strict; easy; informal
I know my aim is to feel relaxed ... and I never feel lazy.

Hello, we travel on the road full time so we have rest days the same as if we were in a house. Housework n cooking is the same also. I enjoy all the highlights/famous things to c n do of travelling as well as "opping". Photography. A night out. A movie. Beach N forest walks. Comedy nights n music festivals. Visiting n staying with family. Heaps to do.
We go wherever we want and do whatever we want. Life is good.

I am quite different at home than I am while on the road.
At home I love to sleep in especially when it gets cooler, like now. Out of bed at around 8.30/9 and a slow breakfast on the back deck in the sun reading a book.
I try to do one thing (task) a day off my 'to do list' eg Mow Grass, trim hedges, wash van/cars, paint front iron work etc.
I try to keep away from the magnetic attraction of my downstairs recliner where I have been known to nod off after lunch awakening at around 4PM.
When on the road I am more like a 76 YO Action Man. Up at first light & if near any water, off for an hour or so paddle, then if not too windy off for an hour or so leisurely bike ride (no hills). Then when I get back to the van SWMBO is up so I make us breakfast to have outside under the awning taking in the view & planning the day. I like to set up the table nicely & enjoy a cafe style meal. That's just the way I am. Ready then for the day's activities with SWMBO. eg. Shopping, walking or seeing any of the touristy things. I love to stroll off into the bush by myself for a few hours 'communing with nature' if we are having a 'rest day' & where that's possible. We both enjoy daily strolls along the beach if that's an option. Towards dusk I am ready for my paddling & riding once again, back in time for the evening BBQ or whatever. I sit outside reading a book (used to have a bottle of wine too - mostly a variety of teas now though) while SWMBO watches the box inside until I nod off.
When I'm off camping with mates, red clawing or whatever, I tend to take charge of setting up a good camp & do most of the cooking. Might be a PITA for some but it rows my boat. One mate stated that it's just like eating in a restaurant when camping with me. A bit over the top I suppose but I do like to eat/live well when camping or caravaning ... perhaps that's why I am a tad overweight.
I too spend lots of time at home base researching the areas we will be visiting & then often ignore it when on the road. I think a little sticks in the memory so we are never short of things to do .... Visitor Info places are a good source too.
Always lots to do & see.
