No all at once,depending on the a/C, most 2kv generators will run most a/C,as I said not all at once we have a Honda 2kva and will run our a/C would have to turn the a/C off, why not use gas to boil the kettle. Good luck and happy travels regards danny

One appliance at a time . Depend on start up current of AC ? 3 kW is more desirable but cost .

Check what wattage each item uses and then check your constant run wattage of the genset you are thinking of buying. My 2kva gives a constant 1.6 kva which will not run my kettle @ 2000 watt but will run my portable AC unit on cool but not heat. Runs my small fan heater on 1 but not on 2 . What you use will determine what you require. Cheers

You can get a GENTRAX inverter generator GT6300 on Ebay local seller, 3.7kva peak / 3.0kva rated (continuous), only $599.00.
That should take care of all your needs at a low cost.
Several things with generators:
1 Capacity: As stated above, check the ratings of your appliances and work out which ones you want toru at the same time. Then you have to start them. When you turn on an appliance, you get what is called an Inrush current. Depending on what you tuen on, eg if it is a motor say on an airconditioner, the current could be up to 5 times the draw at rated operating conditions. This could mean that you won't be able to start it. I am not saying that it won't go, but you may have trouble getting it going.
2 Wave Factor: Most generators use an inverter these days instead of a hard wired generator. Some electronic equipment is sensitive to the wave form and they need a pure sine wave to reliably operate. Some generators offer modified sine wave or even a square wave form. Check with the manuals for your equipment before you buy a generator. Try if possible to get a pure Sine Wave generator and you should have no problems.

Further to my post above about starting currents, just before i retired, I did a design for a tunnel outage in the Snowy. The idea was to use a water intake shaft as a chimney and to assist the airflow with a fan. We bought a 72 kW fan, 1800 diameter. The problem was to drive it and we had a 90 kVA generator. We bought a $10000 inverter unit which to my surprise (they said it would and it did) started the unit quite well. It also started the unit in reverse when needed. It was a variable frequency jobbie and I didn't fully understand how it did it. With no variable frequency doodahs to help you, you may have a job on your hands to start a major eg airconditioner unit. Seek advice from those who know, not necessarily on this forum.

The most important thing when buying a genny in my book would be noise level,think about the poor burgers doing the right thing using solar power that have to put up with the noisy thing destroying there peace and quite,I think a lot of people do but there's a lot of grubs that don't and there the ones that buy cheap and noisy crappy equipment ..
P/s sorry for the agro it's my pet hate the good thing about Rvs is if you get a noisey neighbour you can move on,but why should you have too ,there not nessary we have been camping with solar for many years and if your set up properly you don't need them ,gas has the fridge and hot water covered,12 volt tv uses nothing,LEDs use nothing,if it's raining for a week go into C/p,the nomad that lives permanently on the road and can't afford the odd c/p accomodation well if you have to have the thing buy one that's not so noisy and camp away from others with your noisy machine..

We were using Genny's, long before the Solar etc came along.
They are too useful NOT to use.
Normally if in area first.
I'll pick a spot near the back or off at one end.
Others can then suit themselves.
I've had some park alongside and then whinge.
I normally turn on the grinder for a coupla min's for them.
Usually fixes the problem.
We use Genny's for much more than the camp.
Electric tools and emergency's plus power when solar not any good.
It is part of the whole package mate.
Accept them.
PS.
It's fairly easy to add extra soundproofing.(IE different silencer)
The originals are just, basically a spark arrester.
Make sure you add plenty of S/S mesh in end of new one to do so
And/or a ply box to fit genny in with egg box or sound insulation lining.

Sorry Ron, but I cannot agree with "doing the right thing using solar" attitude.
Generators are a legitimate item to use for a number of items and reasons when camping. I can guarantee that using solar doesn't necessarily make for a better neighbour in a camp ground.
Yes, the person using the generator should be mindful of others, but people who do choose to use generators should not be demonised. It is a personal choice, and a reasonable one foe people to make.
In fact, in a great case of irony during our recent trip through the NT and NW WA, while at Marys Pool free camp between Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing, we watched a solo man camping with the most solar panels I have ever seen on and around a smaller caravan and 4 wd. He moved them a number of times during the day to catch the sun, then as the sun disappeared, he turned on his generator to cook his evening meal, using it for 15 minutes at a most peaceful time of day. Obviously "doing the right thing" doesn't provide all the solutions!
We should all get along with each other, no matter what our choices, as long as each of us shows some consideration for the other.

Poor Ron-D thinks the world revolves around only him, those darn noisy generators! how dare they interrupt his space in his world. I suppose after Ron-D has finished his travels he goes home, parks the tug and van then goes inside turns on a light or makes a cuppa without even a second thought to the noisy, dirty, air and environmental pollution that the rest of his countrymen have to put up with so that he can have his electric power at his finger tips s peaceful existence at home.
Get over it! may all the smokey, noisy air polluting two stroke generators park up close to all the anti generator campers, the world was not created for only them.

There may be many more like Ron-D out there. We choose to not have a generator and get annoyed with over use by others near us. Maybe those of you who need a generator to power your air con/microwave/TV should be the ones to park their tug at home and use those appliances there.

We usually stay in National Parks or more remote areas so there are normally not too many gennies around.

that is an unfortunate attitude to have towards others. At least in National Parks you don't have to worry about it too often.
There is no one answer to provision of power when camping, and everyone is entitled to their own choice.
As generators are often only an issue where free camping is involved, it just reinforces my opinion that when free camping you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately it is like so many aspects in life. As long as we respect the rights of others, we can all get along well. A large number on generator users do the right hing, but a small number make it bad for all. I object to the use of a generator at 10 pm so that the user can use their ice maker to make ice for their drinks. I object to the use of a generator at 5:30 am so they can run a fan heater to dry out their canvas. I object to the generator user using a 25 m cable to be able to place their generator a distance away from their camp, yet closer to mine. I do not object in any way to the use of a generator in any area that it is allowed, and during some reasonable hours. My comment about caravan parks was merely a response to the ridiculous comment that I should stay in a caravan park if I want to stay clear of generators.

Sounds like you have at some time camped at a lovely lake that has been discovered by those power boat/water ski maniacs. You forgot to mention their blazing multiple spotties at night. You know the ones with the great chrome pipework structures over the craft fitted out with all the speakers, XMAS tree LEDs, spotties & spare boards, driven by 20 year olds in designer gear sucking on alco pops chucking their empties overboard.

Hi can anyone with a gentrax say how noisy or quiet they would be against the honda, I have a Honda 2kva and is reasonably quiet but I want to run the a/c and be able run other things at the same time,and looking to upgrade to the honda 3kva, can the gentrax be turned on remotely?, Whenever we have camped with our generator we only used it during daylight and don't want to go into CV parks if we don't have to thanks
