Why Santa asks?.....cos the young Swedish backpacker girls love my butterflies and the multi coloured reflective in the sun, fish, helps me strike up many conversations with other fishermen....giving me local tips....recently at Port Victoria S.A. some fishermen even gave me fish for my granddaughter.....there's also a 'life' statement on there above the identifying 'Grey Nomad' sticker..also the UHF channels I constantly scan....Truckies usually come up and ask if The Fish' has his ears on.....and the 'Jayco' cos I just love my Jayco...now anyways....I reckon folk don't pass me readily as they are far toooo busy reading.....lmao....great idea...Hoo Roo

"Good on Goldfinger" That's the sort of response I was looking for,
My idea of posting this tread, was to see who has some type of identification on the rear of their vans,
I thought that idea of being able to recognise another Grey Nomads on the roads, by spotting a Sticker with a call sign, would be well received by those who may want to meet other Members of this Forum.
If I had wanted negative comments, I could have started the tread with a caption like..... Do you want to be known ?? or Are you happy on you're own, or something like .... Are you afraid to tell people that you are a Grey Nomad ??????
Keep you're backsides showing People, Lets see who isn't afraid to show their rear, "Ya never know" who you will be following on your next trip?????

No fear here, Jim and as I travel mostly on minor roads away from the general populace, I rarely have another van up behind me and it is even more rare for me to catch up with another van. I travel too slowly.
It is rare for truckies to call me on the CB as well .... that is because I usually pick them in my mirrors well before they are up my arrrrr...........backside and I ask them if they got their "ears on". Obviously, if I need to get in touch with a truckie coming toward me he never gets to see my arrrrrr............backside anyway.
However, there is some merit for those on the forum who have a 'distinctive' arrrr...........rear end and want to highlight to others. I am sure others will want to be recognised and will populate the thread.

Looking good there JIM, I read somewhere that some people didn't want to shove a sticker on their new vans, ?
that I can understand, as they are a hell of a job to remove when its time to get rid of it,
What I did with our van was, find a piece of light aluminium painted white, I then stuck the C.B. sigh and the G.N. stickers onto it, I then stick window sealing tape to the back, so it wouldn't scratch the back of the van,
I then removed one pop rivet and used a S/S self tapper to attach the sigh to the rear, When we go to sell our van, it's easy to remove the sign and replace one pop rivet.
I can see an ideal place for a sigh on your van, that's by removing the bottom screw at the base of your rear-vision camera, the sign on aluminium would slip under there nicely.

I don't have an issue placing stickers on ours at all. Our camper (sold) had the back covered and well placed, of all the wayout places we had travelled. I asked the couple who brought our camper, did they want them removed. Their answer was no way. They loved the way we had done it.
Lambie got us two funnies for my BD. Plus I just brought x 2 GN's, five minutes ago. Its coming together slowly. I might put one below the wheel cover too.

G'day Sarg, That's a very distinctive caravan you have there, nice and bright and easy to spot on the road anywhere.
Over the years I've had a number of these vans myself, only had a leak problem with one of them, the common thing, a dropped roof at one end, made a lovely funnel in heavy rain, soon had that fixed with a new cross-member, then we had a ball while we had that one.
That number plate strikes me as a bit unusual, is it common to have a letter both front and back of the number ? any idea what the letters stand for ?

I can't see where you could place a sticker under you spare wheel. the stickers have a white back-ground, so they look good anywhere on a white surface, maybe placing it after the word "Outback" directly above the spare would look alright,
Nothing to be ashamed of, being a "Grey Nomad" that is, In my case, I reckon it states that we are "Old Farts" who have payed our tax's all our lives, and now we are on the road enjoying this country, ( as long as we keep getting the Pension )
One thing I would like to say is, I wouldn't stick anything onto your van, before it's been through the major refit by Jayco,
Just in case it gives them something to whinge about, afterwards, when all is repaired to your satisfaction, then go for it and the best of luck to you and Lambie .

Plenty of WA plates are shire plates so have distinctive letter number combo's.
By the low number I would say the plate is from the shire of Roebourne in the North West of WA.

The only problem is that, If you are referring to my caravan ( at top of this page )
My caravan has never been anywhere near Roebourne , I purchased the van from a couple living around 200 clicks South of Perth, and they bought it off a bloke who lived further South,
At one time, here in the West, there were plates issued for every Shire, and if the vehicle was sold out of that Shire, it had to go through an inspection before it could be transferred to the new owner,
That's all gone now, no inspections required any longer, unless it runs out of rego, then it's over the very tight inspection Pits, but as long as the vehicle is kept registered, they are not required to undergo any inspection, the coppers do have random road-side checks on rare occasions ( when a bit of revenue raising is required ) .
this was going to be changed a few years back, the Gov't wanted to bring in compulsory inspections every 12 months, to be done by the Coppers, the coppers refused to do it as they said that there were just too many vehicles in W.A. and they never had the man power to do it anyway, so the idea was dropped.
The same goes for plate numbers, some time back I had an old yellow plate on a caravan which I thought looked pretty ugly, so I whipped it off and took it into the licencing authority and got it exchanged for a nice new blue one, ( $ 8.00 ) they even gave me a choice of what prefix I would like on the plate, I chose a prefix which originally would have been only issued for people living in the Armadale area, some 20 km from my home address, this made no difference to the licencing Mob at all.

All my vehicles were registered in S.A. when we took off for the wild blue yonder from Pt Lincoln January 2010..2 cars, horse float, and caravan....the minute I registered a residential rental address in Victoria albeit temporary at the time.. I had to have all plates renewed and registered in Victoria and pay some $80? for an" inspection" on a then near new caravan...all they did was measure it.....even had to send plates back to S.A. and got b/all refund for unexpired registrations...
S.A. is complicit in this 'gouging' as I retained my Post Office Box at Pt Lincoln and rented out our property...S.A Registrar of MV's. would not accept a renewal for a Post Office Box address knowing someone else was now 'registered' at my property address...and I now had a Victorian residential address even though not permanent....they get you every which way if you try and beat it..like I did....had to pay up and shut up....it all happens on your first renewal notice of any of your registered vehicles... Can hardly wait to see what NSW have in store for us in due course...our problem is we are not travelling fast enough to beat the "system"...Hoo Roo

My answer to this statement is probably obvious,( PULL-E-FINGER, GOLDFINGER ) Go like the Clappers, although I hear that NSW has some pretty strict rules as well.

I didn't do it for recognition, I did it for safety. Returning back across the Nullarbor one time a voice comes over "hey mate in the Jayco, are you reading me". Long story short a road train that wanted to overtake, and have a chat! I told him to swing out and that I'd back off (I was travelling!) Murphy's law states that, as he's along side of me, a car appears in the distance. Thanks to contact We knew he'd pass me relatively quickly.
For $20 I got this. When my first call came through I took a few moments to remember it was me!!

Only trouble is, ( apart from no sight of the Twins ) is that, I can't see any sign of a G.N. sticker on your rear !!!!
Maybe it's my eyesight, as the picture is rather on the small side for these old Spec's of mine.
P,S. Just remembered, you left the Twins on the reservation in Bygone Bay. better go get them soon, Winter is coming, you'll be needing a bit of warmth in you're van soon LOL
