I am wondering if you were to premix an amount of any of the napisan clones in water and then let it sit in plastic bottles till needed, would it tend too lose any of it's effectiveness over some time?

It works by releasing oxygen as it dissolves.
I add it to the toilet dry and let the liquid in the toilet dissolve it slowly.

I use the home brand one - apparently the woolworths one is best suited for the toilet cassette. Something about one of the additives which the home brands don't have in them!

we tried premixing once.
Filled a plastic bottle with napisan and water and put half into the empty toilet, all good And we had some premixed for top ups if needed.
We then travelled to our next destination some 4 hours away and when we went into the bathroom the remaining premix was all over the walks and floor. The plastic bottle has exploded, fortunately no ome was in the bathroom at the time.
Needeless to say we will never again leave any mixed napisan outside of the toilet.

We have been using the cheap Napisan products for 13yrs now with good results but found only one of them has the higher concern of Sodium Percarbonate being the Woolies Brand and also $2 extra now. I have since purchased a kilo of 100% pure Sodium Percarbonate from a Home Brew shop when passing through Adelaide. I only use a teaspoon of this product as compared to a capful of the cheap Napisan and find it works well at this concern. The price was $14/kilo.
We also have a 2 litre bottle of the Sodium Percarbonate mixed with water for toilet flushing use with a hole in the lid but always make sure it is securely placed. When mixed the combination of the Napisan and water causes a reaction which can cause excessive pressure buildup. So not a good idea to totally seal the container. Using this for flushing stops excess water use which fills the Cassette quicker.

Coles brand has 34% sodium percarbonate. Woolies have dropped theirs to 28%.

Got to look hard for the sodium per carbonate content, usually in tiny letters, somewhere on the container. As sands mere says, Coles brand has higher pic content.

Neil - that's the one I use - Supreme - works really well, and cheap - in WA you can get it at Red Dot shops as well.

We have a small Portypotti , haven't used it yet , still new in the box , it came with 2 small bottles of chemical , should l not bother and just use nappisan
What's the go with nappisan , do you just add some to the waste tank after use and how much .

You were advised that it releases oxygen on contact with water thus begins 'wearing out' immediately. This also can cause the bottle to explode! What more do you need to know to not do it?
It really is not difficult to drop a teaspoon full at every #2. I wrap it in a sheet of loo paper too make a 'bomb' of it. No chance of the granules getting into the seal.

@ John, DO NOT store premixed "Soaker" as alluded to here it will become active as soon as mixed with water not only will it start to lose it's effectiveness, it will explode if kept in a plastic bottle. (from first hand experience).
@ Jacko; use the supplied chemicals , you've paid for it so use it, or keep until you run out of "soaker" in remote area or expensive shopping area.
I also now put 4 teaspoons of dry powder into cassette after emptying - first No.1 will activate.

For them that are inclined to make their own beer, Napisan or it's clones, is a good sterilising agent to do your equipment and bottles.
Just dissolve 40g sodium percarbonate in 1 litre of water and tip into your fermenting container. Top up with water and dump all your utensils into the container (airlock, stirrers, bottle filling gizmo, etc. Do the same to sterilise your bottles. Saves spending heaps on packaged sterilisers from the manufacturers of the ingredients.
It is obvious that everything in the world relates back to beer.

Don't use it.

Sodium percarbonate is no danger to septic systems or the general environment. It breaks down to harmless stuff very quickly.

Particularly if it is blue or brown liquid. The green Thetford liquid may be OK environmentally but it may give the problems in removal of traces as Peter alluded to.

Don't believe every ''handy hint'' you read on a RV Forum. We were told to put 200ml of Milton baby bottle sterilizer in our water tank then fill it with water & take the van for a 10km drive to mix it around. Drain the tank & then fill with drinking water. The water tank has now been cleared of any algal growth. Trouble is for the next 10 tank refills our drinking water tasted like cats piss. Never again. We use the Thetford chemicals for the receiver tank of our toilet & plain water for flushing , they work perfectly well. If you can't afford them you should be still working.

It's just that l have seen countless post about nappisan , because we didn't have a chemical dunny until now , l hadn't taken much notice until now
I thought nappisan must of been better , l don't know the cost of either product .
