Yep been at it for a year and a bit now - lots of relaxing hours as one learns - heaps of stuff on U-Tube as well. Got two good Tutor books for technical reference. Easy instrument to learn (have a Concert Ukulele) and it is so easy to take on the road being light and quite small. Now starting to advance past strumming and starting to read music to play melody. Cheers

I joined a "ukestra"..........full of all sorts of people from kids to retirees. Such a happy bunch.
Caters for everyone from beginners to clever with lots of learning opportunities included.
Lots of opportunities to travel as well..............anyone going to the Blue Mountains Uke Festival in February?
Hi Rip and Rosie yes I play. Would love to go to the uke fest but can't make it. No groups in my area but I have just found a couple of beginners and we get together once a week. It's fun. I was thinking of doing something at Tamworth next yr.

Take my Uke away in the van everywhere we go, been playing it for 40 years. Also have 4 electric guitars & 2 amplifiers at home, been playing since 1963. Ukes are a lot of fun. It's worth buying a more expensive ''proper instrument'' rather than the cheap toys that are popular at the moment.

I got an $80 uke to learn on... am planning an upgrade when I get really good at it though.
Planning to tie my travels to ukulele festivals.

This site is great for learning new songs. www.scorpexuke.com/ukulele-songs.html
My uke has an in built tuner & a pickup so that I can play through my amplifiers. Here's a few shots of my babies.
does anyone use an ipad app for storage of their song sheets etc?
Looking for something which will load and store .pdfs and also scan hardcopy.

Stumbled across a Ukulele group near me, also found a teacher at $15 per hour with a group of 3, so ordered a fairly cheap concert Ukulele, can't wait to see how I go, must be meant to be......
Will be interesting to see if camping neighbors mind a bit of twanging while I learn, I'd imagine training time should be kept to a minimum......for the sake of their ears.

hi. we play ukulele and bagpipes. polar opposites, I know. bagpipe practice (hubby) is done 200 - 300m away from civilisation or the campfire unless closer by popular demand... but he's pretty good even if I am a bit biased. I (the wife) play uke & melodica (a harmonica sound). the accordian had to stay at home Camping is a great time to "have a go" and practice unless you are just about on top of neighbours even then it's not too loud so what the heck! keep on strummin' I say! We're setting off next week to head north, Qld coast then back down inland (I know, us and 10000 others). safe and happy travels, everyone!

Just bought a ukulele very similar to this from Smiley and Janet at Ukulele Source https://www.yelp.com/biz/ukulele-source-san-jose whilst in San Jose California, it's a Pepe Romero Tiny tenor, lovely tone and beautifully finished, Smiley was very helpful and went out of his way to ensure I was happy with the purchase.
Great little store with a large range of uke's.

Its reasonably priced and presented in an easy to understand way, at US$67 pretty cheap.
Don't need internet access whist on the road, lessons can be downloaded/saved to hard drive and played anywhere.

just saw the New Zealand fellows on the Morning Show (by chance!) who were just at the Central Coast Ukulele Festival. One of few large Ukuklele Groups performing that rival the great Blue Mountains Ukulele Group (the Blue MUGs). And I mean large. Do any members get to Ukulele (or any) music festivals on their travels ???

I don't, but plan to in the future.
Also toying with the idea of attempting to start a group in the Copper Coast S.A. area, sadly don't know a sole around here with an interest in playing uke.
