Good on Cindy for closing that thread. It disgusted me as it did Sheba. No need for such disrespect. Maybe I'm a fuddy-duddy, but I'm proud of it.

Censorship is the disgusting element here. It was posted in 'Just Joking'... it was a joke!
IMO Cindy, whomever she may be, is not worthy of the admin role. Sorry, but that is my opinion.
News flash! People are entitled to their opinions... and to share a laugh.

I see you have been a member just over a month Ondabeach. When you have been here longer you will learn that Cindy not only runs this site but owns this site. She is the boss of this site and what she says goes. Unfortunately for you she rules the roost, which is fortunately for the rest of us.

It must have been posted twice Steve as I don't go into " Just Joking" but did see it in "I digress" and was offended.
The YOUNG Royals are a credit to the throne and didn't deserve that .
As HW said, Cindy is the OWNER of this great forum and we like it or lump it. If the later people are free to leave I spose.
Anyway mate, you should be busy working on that great looking T35, haven't seen much progress lately :)
I am surrounded by my specialist warriors for safety now.

FWIW I'm with Cindy although I must admit I did crack a smile but then when I thought about it I figured I wouldn't like it done to me. It would be a sad world if we had no respect.

My thoughts on it were it could leave the forum open to litigation from the Royal household, they have already sued magazines/newspapers etc, so agree with the Webmaster on this one.

Cindy, this is a great site, and it's the people that make it, the good, the bad, the ugly... and even those with poor taste.
I agree that respect is important, and that the pic wasn't in 'good taste' for some, but taste is subjective.
Disrespecting or denying people's right to freedom of speech, is a far greater crime than having poor taste, in fact the former is literally a crime in this great country of ours.
You yourself said you cracked a smile when you saw the pic... I'm pretty sure that's why it was put up in the first place, to give people a laugh, it wasn't meant to cause offense.
Having the power to do something isn't the same as having the right. That's a very slippery slope, and it doesn't lead any where good.
Just think about it from all sides is all I'm asking.
Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for the input everyone. Just to clarify. The original image was posted in ‘I Digress’. It seemed to divide opinion, with many finding it offensive. Rather than deleting the ‘joke’ I moved it to the ‘Just Joking’ section where I guess the boundaries of good and bad taste can be pushed a little further. After humming and haahing about it for a while, I also decided to close the thread. Really, I was hoping to avoid an acrimonious debate about the rights and wrongs of the ‘joke’. In other words, I was hoping that people who wanted to have a chuckle would have a chuckle, and those that took offence could just sigh and move on to another thread. I guess this thread is proof that that plan backfired. Oh, well. I tried! I’m happy to leave this thread open for now but ask that people with differing opinions please keep the tone respectful. Thanks, everybody.

Great response by Cindy, shows that there is always more to take into account when you are responsible for a great site like this.
Keep up the good work Cindy, the forum is a credit to you and we love having the opportunity to read and contribute to it.
Ondabeach, nazi is long way over the top for a post being moved or deleted I think, not exactly comparing apples with apples. Get a history book or dictionary and read what they did !

The unfortunate thing that I find is that often opinions are expressed, much the same as the opening post, in inflammatory and unacceptable ways. Differing opinions are fine, belittling the holders of differing opinions to yours is not fine.
Just my opinion.

Don't any of you remember the amount of questioning in the Media some time ago, regarding Harrys' parentage ? I just think another example of this is such bad taste.
How would you feel if you were one of those young people and saw something like this ? And with Social Media the way it is these days, who's to say they won't ?
Cheers,
Sheba.

I guess it was bound to offend some. But to be truthful, I had to think a moment on what was wrong with this pic.
I have so little interest in celebrities of all kinds that I probably wouldn't recognise most if they stood up in my porridge.
Nevertheless I am in favour of the monarchy, and hope our queen hangs in there for a lot longer.
As for the rest of the royal crowd, I'm sure they don't need my approval for anything. Surely they should be grown up enough to not be bothered by this stuff.
I understand that teenagers can be bullied via electronic media, but surely grownups should be able to just ignore it or turn the computer off.

Try and stay on topic guys, this is about censorship, not the royal family.
We all have our own opinions about pretty much any topic you care to name, and we are all perfectly entitled to them. We re not however, entitled to force our opinions upon others.
Censorship in the hands of a democratic government is used to combat serious breaches of human rights... such as racial discrimination, sexism, religious persecution, homophobia and the like. I would have no issue whatsoever if a forum moderator were to exercise censorship if a post or topic breached a fundamental human right, but shutting people down because someone's sensibilities were offended, because someone found a joke to be in poor taste... that I do have an issue with.
To Cindy's credit, she has acknowledged our right to express ourselves by leaving this topic open, so long as we're civil about it, and for that, I applaud her.
Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democracy, and worth fighting for... better people than us have died for it.
Cheers, Steve.
