Chatted with other Jayco owners yesterday, after we'd returned from a local Jayco dealer with our Jayco Discovery, having just had more minor repairs done.
We all talked about all the problems, door and drawer catches breaking, leaking sink etc etc, but all agreed that repairs were carried out by any Jayco dealer in a friendly and helpful way. Of course as our vans are all out of warranty we have to pay for said repairs nowadays. We all carried a tool box for roadside repairs, 2 of us had had to replace the microwave back onto its mountings, and Mr D has replaced all the drawer runners with stronger ones.
So I asked "Would you buy another Jayco?" and we all agreed on "Hmm, maybe, because the price and the service is good"
Any other Jayco owners out there, would you buy another? and why, or why not?

I would because they are an Aussie made product and that's important to us.
However I have been "negotiating" with them to go see the range at the factory because ALL their dealers
are rubbish, at least the two big ones near me are. They stand by their dealer base and won't let me look at them there.
Anyway I'm flexible so have struck them off my list now.

Jayco did a couple of things for me out of warranty Gerty, I rang their customer service person at their head office asking for "advice" on fixing certain items and they gave me an order number to have it fixed at their expense. Drawers was one of them.
What I found with the drawer runners was the metal runner was ok, but they slotted into plastic brackets at the inside end and these broke away. What I did with one of my bottom drawers was to put a piece of flat wood behind the runners on both sides (there was a gap between them and the wall) and resting on the floor level, then screwed the runners into that on both sides by using existing holes in the metal runner. This took all the weight off the end brackets (even though I had replaced them) and I had no further trouble.
Yes, I would buy another Jayco, some of the things I like about them with pop tops is the lever action end bits that give a fulcrum lift to the pop top at each end and once up can be used to hand tea towels or other items when parked up, rather than the "draw" type handles on the pop top roofs that some other pop tops have.
Independent suspension was another that some other vans didn't have. More accessories than a lot of other vans which were dearer and a 2nd to none warranty service IMHO.

yes I would buy another Jayco. We have an older model but everything is ok. of course things wear out with age. but that happends with any caravan. very happy with ours.

I'm happy with my Jayco. Yes, screws get loose, but that's an easy fix. I recently removed the lounge in its entirety and noticed a lot of screws hadn't even been used where they should have been!! I contemplated buying a bigger, brand new van, Jayco were by far the cheaper, but now I'm renovating and improving my existing one. I figure, I've done 20,000kms in it ( and it was 3 years old when I bought it) and it's only been minor things go wrong (bathroom door catch broke, sticky drawer etc) so I'll stick with the devil I know. I've taken it off road to places it shouldn't go, and it was fine. In a few weeks it will be my permanent home. I've spoken to others with different makes of van, and most have had faults, some seriously so. It's tows like a dream and I like it, so I'm happy :)

Jayco know they have a very average product. They acknowledge this by having adequate aftersale service. Well done. This ensures that whilst you may no be entirely happy with your van, the backup will keep you there. Holden and Ford the same without adequate aftesale backup. One of the many reasons why they will be shutting down soon.
My only gripe is that they do not build custom vans. If the floorplan you are after is not in their stock, you have but no other option to go elsewhere.

We have been in our Starcraft full time for over 4yrs now & in our travels I have not heard from any van we have come across that has not had some form of trouble. It seems to me it is just the degree. I find where the differences appear to be is in the ability to have repairs done in a timely & agreeable manner. I can only speak for myself & add that on weighing up price, warranty, service & serviceability, yes I would buy another Jayco. In fact I intend to.
PS; I have no time for or confidence in most of the dealers I have encountered, (the image of used car salesman comes to mind). But Jayco Customer Service & service I have found to be second to none.
PPS; I am at a loss to understand the extent of Jayco bashing that seems prevalent. Not sure I have heard it directed at any other manufacturer to the same degree.

Our Jayco is 2002 vintage and still going well, admittedly we have made a few changes to the layout.
My B in L paid almost 90 grand for a van and the door to the ensuite and a light fitting fell off just taking it from the factory to his house.
I would get another Jayco in a heartbeat if I could afford one

Bought a Jayco Conquest M/home 4 years ago,, Jayco have NO quality control, Building the product, but have a great a after sales service, have had things fixed after the warranty ran out...... Would I buy another Jayco product,, there are better product's out there !!But!!, a lot more money you have to outlay, for the money I think you get, what you pay for ,,,,,,,,,a very excited Billeeeeeee
I compared them to others and their chassis stacks up better than most for the money...
we paid $38,000 for our latest Jayco and looked at another brand with the exact same setup and layout and they were using only a 4" chassis to Jayco's 5" ... but what was the price of the othe brand? $48,000
I really like the Jayco's airliner overhead lockers as they are smooth and don't catch dust compared to those "home made" caravans that have lips on every cupboard.. you know the ones im talking about..
the home made ones that just put anyone's brand on them like safari.. etc etc etc.. all the same caravan coming out of the same factory..
as I've said in another thread we've has some draw ends come adrift through outback QLD on the most horrendous road in Australia for caravans.. went into Jayco..
they fixed them on the spot..
I also have spoken to them about problems that we had during our WA tour... like losing the awning screws after they vibrate loose.. couldn't get them in WA with holidays and no retail van outlets.. etc... they said to me.. "why didn't you call us? we could have expressed freighted them direct to you or to a CP that you were heading to next" ...........oh.. ......I just didn't think anyone would go out of their way to help us that much.. but Jayco will...
we've had two brand new Jayco's now and have been very happy..

We stated off with an Eagle Outback and progressed to a Discovery Outback. Hardly any problems with either and we would still be Jayco owners if they made a dedicated off road van.
Very good value for money in my opinion.

We have never looked back after buying our 2013 Starcraft (20-62-2).
In the early days, we had a few issues that were dealt with and now have no problems.
Understand that Jayco are built to a price, however they are still Oz made and the profits stay here in Oz.
Yes I would buy another Jayco, we got a great deal and the service is second to none.

I have heard a lot of people knock Jayco, and was thinking I would not even look at them.

I'm on my 3rd Jayco in 8 yrs, yes as others have said they have their problems, granted some of those problems shouldn't happen if quality controll was better and I've had my share, but you'd be hard pushed to find another manufacturer that will back their product so well even out of warranty
Who I buy another? Yes ,if they had one that suits our needs.
Why am I "NOT" buying one this time round, simply because they don't have one suited to our needs, well! they sort of do however they layout didn't quite suit nor was the weight right for me to legally tow.
Does changing brand concern me? A little, but everyone deservse a go.

My wife and I looked for over two years at motor homes before we found what we liked,when we saw it we couldn't wait for it to be made and delivered.That was almost five years ago,we had a couple of small issues that were promptly fixed.We have travelled 65,ooo ks with no major issues.Would we buy another Jayco,yes definitely, apart from the small issues we have had a good run with our motor home and is still going strong.I have had first hand experience with friends and relations that have bought more expensive other well known motor home brands and they have had major issues,some still not resolved .I guess all manufacturers have their good and bad stories,but they have the choice of fixing the problems, Jayco has looked after us and we are happy with their service................. cheers Peter

Our Jayco dealer in Perth is Caravanland, and I bought my then new Jayco pop top from them.
They could not have been more helpful and friendly, any van on the lot could be looked at without them breathing down your neck unless you wanted help.
Before and after service was excellent and they had a great parts shop on site also.
I've had several Jaycos, but have recently purchased a Coromal. It was a toss up beteen Jayco or Coromal this time - having the oven was the main difference. As others have said, Jayco have a reasonalbe product, and you may be lucky to have a good distributor, but their quality control is not the best. Yes, you get what you pay for. They do run a very good website, (www.expandasdownunder.com) and I used a lot of the mods others had posted on that site. Jayco does also fix major problems even when out of the 'stated' warranty period.

Would I buy another Jayco? yes I would, I have had a few problems with this van and Jayco have always come to the party with the repairs.
Some were done under warranty and some out of warranty but they fixed them with no charge to me.
My StarCraft 19.62 love it..

I have had both Jayco and Coromal pop top vans, what I liked better with the Jayco was the fulcrum type raisers inside each end of the pop tops which made it easy to raise and lower the roof. The Jayco also had independent suspension which Coromal did not, only having draw type handles on the roof which made it difficult to raise and lower.
One the plus side, Coromal had a separate auxiliary department with an outside hatch while Jayco had theirs under the bed in a battery case. Coromal was a lot dearer for less items, eg; airconditioning was extra etc. Another thing I could not understand was if you bought a Jayco in Victoria, transport costs were not added which were if transported to a dealer in another state. However Coromal charged the transport cost at a fixed price in whatever state you were in (same price). So if you bought it in WA (state of manufacture) it was the same price as you would pay in Qld (no discount for buying in WA, unlike Jayco).
NB: I am not up to date with current models or prices so things may be different today.

Sorry I have to disagree that you are unable to look at them at the factory. Whilst they have no dedicated showroom as such, probably the reason to send you to a dealer to look at the range, we recently did a factory tour and were able to look at any given van, motorhome, poptop, that was presently getting built.
If you have not done this, it certainly is a worthwhile venture, IT's FREE, and give a very good understanding how they make their product.

Yep the lads at Jayco Canberra ( Queanbeyan ) are first rate, nothing is a problem.

The people at Brisbane Camperland have given us excellent service on 3 Jayco vans and have made it enjoyable to go back to their showroom even if only to have a look at their new models. Josh has always treated us like family and always made us feel welcome. We seem to have been lucky as our problems have only ever been in items not made by Jayco eg microwave and waterpump. Our next van will certainly be another Jayco.

PS We will have done just on 30,000 kms this year in our sterling and nearly 60,000 kms since we purchase it nearly 3 years ago so it does not sit at home under a cover.

Same here as said earlier for Jayco dealer in Perth, Caravanland at Canning Vale, couldn't have been better.
Some dealers are better than others irrespective of the make etc, so can't paint all dealers with the same brush.

Here at Hervey Bay we are camped next to a very spiffy new Jayco Silverline which has a slide-out, independent suspension and all the bells and whistles. Compared with our little 4 year old Discovery, you wouldn't think they could be from the same manufacturer. Its 6months old, and the owners are thrilled to bits with it, haven't had a single thing go wrong, not even a door-catch!
Ours had had numerous repairs by the time it was 6 months old. Seems as if Jayco are improving!

We recently visited a Jayco Dealership in Coffs Harbour and looked over the 2014 Jayco Conquest (RWD model). Also on the lot was a 2 year old Conquest that was for sale. Some of you have had problems with the latches on doors by the sounds of it ........ we took particular notice of the doors/locks/latches/hinges of both models and can tell you that the current year models have upgraded these things ........ perhaps they are doing what you would expect and hope they do - noting the repeat issues in their service department and upgrading in the next models. We also today visited Avida at Burleigh and noted that their current model also have the better type of hinges etc. Still have not made a final decision between Avida and Jayco but very close!
