i'm painting at the moment will go into BP tuesday or wednesday to see how it goes it's 5.5% off price of fuel haven't gone through the email properly yet

OK ... I've now been through their website, but have yet to register (I am always quite wary of 'registering for free' as it often has some hidden catch) - and to be quite frank, I am a little confused as I found it provided very little real information. Call me dumb perhaps (most do ).
I clicked on their "How does it work" link and that told me absolutely nothing. I assume from all the types of 'discounted services' available they cover almost everything apart from petrol/fuel.
Am I right in assuming that one registers (no cost?) and then go to the various 'discounts' available and give them an amount of money (eg $50 or $500) and receive a 'credit card' for that service and then off ya go and spend it? I did note they are a "for profit organisation" so someone is paying them to do all this.
Regarding the Petrol Discount with BP they state the 'credit card' is valid at any "participating BP outlet". Given my experience with a BP Fuel Card I had a couple of years ago, beware. Not all BP servos accept their own BP Fuel Card - make sure you check their acceptance of "The Big Switch BP card" BEFORE you fill up.
I am open to any comment or advice that shows my interpretation of this offer is not correct. It could simply be my problem of always checking inside the mouth of any apparently attractive equine offered.

Thanks Dave, I have signed up and bought two $50 cards for a total of $100 to try it out. I have 12 months to use it.
Seems ok, they do state on the site that they get a commission of the sales from the scheme from the various providers. This does not affect your deal.
It suits me as I use 95 octane fuel as opposed to standard and most BP's have 95 Octane, the Coles one near me for which I have discount vouchers only has standard and 98 Octane. My vehicle is designed for 95, although I can use standard for reduced performance and kms per litre where 95 is not available.
Thanks for the info on not all BP accept BP cards Rocky, I'll find out soon as I didn't see your post before I purchased mine.
I did read those comments on the site David, some more positive ones in a forum section once you have signed on.

I also checked it out, but I put all my fuel on credit card and pay in full on due date. I get up to 55 days free credit that way so why would I pay $500 up front when it can be getting interest? Also, you don't get the discount until you have spent the total amount on the card. I tend to use BP fuel, but cannot see any real benefit to me.

Corporations make a monty out of pay up front deals.....they invest the considerable total on the daily investment market.....why do you think Bank's used to love selling Travellers Cheques....you pay in advance and they are spent later...magnificent winfall for them......with any of these schemes once they have a considerable pool of funds when the system gets going its extremely profitable to THEM......in a previous life I used to sit at the desk that had to advise Corporate Office our daily surplus in a State Bank Head Office for investment at the daily rate....
Paying 5.5% with their own retail margins built in is a financial hoot for them......plus as you have paid in advance you ain't likely to go anywhere else......wish I could set it all up.....Hoo Roo

if you are on a pension and you can save 7 or 8 c a litre it make a lot of difference . not all of us have a big super to back us up . i am still working part time at 69 in my business . going to retire in a month or so. i did have 3 vehicles on the road one of them had a machine in back of van that ran on fuel 4L per hour while cleaning carpets .we charge $120 per hour to clean your carpets, insurance and all other things, am no better off than being on wages, i put fuel in tank every other day. thats around $1200 a month
have not been able to put my prices up as fuel goes up. 90% of carpet cleaners have electric machine and use your power.
stuff all this i'm about to retire and get on the road. i will look into this more tomorrow had to many reds.
just think of the pensioners they are the ones this may help that are on the road

That bit didn't quite make sense to me (their blurb, not yours), it sounded like you got the discount at the point of sale, but they took another percentage off when you used the card until it expired ?????
I don't use a credit card and don't have enough in the bank to worry about interest so will see how it goes (got no choice now I have bought the card, I bought two $50 ones, didn't like the idea of splurging $500 up front.
It covers all types of fuel by the way, from their site;

My daughter works in a bank Gold Tech and some of the staff were using the discount site, so she passed it onto me.
(I have also worked at several banks, but not in a finance role). Cheque clearing of Bank Cheques also seems to be a profitable business also, not to mention the charges on them.

I signed up early and was quite eager to see what I could save with the deal - until I got the email today and found out it was BP.
Some years back we had two Subarus and used the local BP for about 8 years (as it was only two streets away) - however during those 8 years we had recurring problems with the oil seals in both engines leaking - after heaps of wasted repair dollars, an independent motor engineer traced it down to one or two additives in the BP fuel that slowly over time attacked and shrank the rubber in the seals causing leaks. As the Subies are a flat four boxer engine, it has twice as many oil seals as most other four cylinder cars, and as they are low down on the motor, it requires a MAJOR job to replace the oil seals. After 2 total seal replacements in both cars costing us over $900 for each car twice, we said enough was enough, and changed to the local Mobil, Caltex or Shell. Strangely enough over the remaining 4 years we had both cars we had no further trouble with shrinking oil seals.
We have only used BP maybe twice in the years since, and then only because BP was the ONLY servo in that town. So, I'm giving a big NO to the Big Switch deal - I figure that Caltex and Shell will soon drop their base price to compete head on with BP and the Big Switch deal, while still adhering to their own 'no more than 4c shopper dockets discount' pact.

In Tamworth the BP is the dearest by far of all the servo's and even with 5.5% off it would still be dearer. I'm not a BP fan anyway.

Bear in mind that whoever runs Big Switch may also have offers of other fuel suppliers, not just BP.
It is not owned by BP but obviously they are the one being used at the moment.
Interesting that BP fuels can cause problems, never heard of that before.
Once in an auto shop I was asking about fuel additives for diesels and a bloke working there told me they were already in BP fuel as he had worked for BP at one time, I can't recall what the additives were though.

BIG switch was on the news last night. If you buy a $50 card, you get $3. If you buy a $500 card you get $30. This works out to be 6%. Bank interest are below 4% for term deposits. 6% does not sound bad, but, are you comfortable that they have your money and are investing it? We can blow $500 worth of fuel when we are on the move in a few days.

A fleet of 17 trucks doing rounds of 120kl per load were just dead along the roadside every where;by time I repaired one another one had stopped. The contents of filters was just like thickened cream .
For weeks we chased trucks up a down the road changing fuel filters by the hundreds ,adding concentrates to break down the wax ,cleaners to clean injectors a pumps etc etc.
Need I say any more ;will never change my opinion of BP.

well i didn't expect all the negative about BP. In Adelaide the oil tankers come in from Singapore ,drop there loads to the big holding tanks. doesn't all fuel companies use the same
