Just trie dto sign into hotmail and I am getting a screen saying 'Call us over protective' and it wants me to click on a next box to get a code to access Hotmail.
has anybody else had this happen?
I did a chat with MS and they say its ok to click on Next
I also honed them and they told me a web site to go to and that sends me to have a chat with them.
Anybody got a phone no for Microsoft Support please
Hmmmmm not sure if this is a scam or not.

You certainly have to be careful these days. So many e-mails arrive in my box with links to click on for everything from pretty girls in Russia, Viagra and other types of bulls@&t. You may have inadvertantly clicked on a link that has installed some malware on your computer. If you are running Windows 7, suggest you download Microsoft Security Essentials. My opinion is it is better than all the commercial anti virus programs you have to pay for. Further suggest you do a full scan, if nothing nasty turns up, follow the Hotmail prompts.

Hotmail is now a Microsoft product. After the scan, bring up the Hotmail log in page. Enter your Hotmail e-mail address. Instead of entering your Password, click on "Can't access your account ?" When the next page comes up, tick the box "I think someone else is using my Microsoft account " See what comes back and follow the instructions. They will probably get you to change your password...after which you should be able to log on...

Got an email from my GP the other day who has a Hotmail address, and it was for a weight loss program. Me? Lose weight? So I contacted my doc and asked if his email had been hijacked. Yep, that was the problem alright.

I've had same thing and its a pain in rear end. You need another email address.They send you a verifying code to this address..... once you enter that into your original hotmail accoun,t you can then change your security settings as they want you to do. Or that is what is supposed to happen, trouble is once I enter in the code, nothing happens....it just goes back to original window. Just goes around in circle. I can get out of it, but it comes back every 30 days asking me the same thing.
I havent made any attempts to fix this properly...hopefully you can figure it out and let me know!

I got sick of Hotmail about 10yrs ago and changed to Gmail, took a little while to get all of my contacts to change their contact details but everytime someone that counted me on the Hotmail addy I asked them to change their contact details for me..took about 6mths before I completely stopped using Hotmail..

Been using Gmail for years ,never had a problem, was a Hotmail user about 10 years ago, Gmail is the most popular for anybody online these days.

did the ignore option and they sent advice to change password so did that and I am now back into hotmail, how long for that is the question, only time will tell

I use hotmail regularly, and recently they wouldn't allow me access until I received the code. Its easy to rectify Wombat, just type in an alternate email address, within a few seconds you will find the code there. Go back to your email account, place in the code, and it will all be working normally again.....Kisha.

I had the same trouble with Hotmail wombat, had to get a code from micro soft something about changing
to outlook.com I now have two email addresses but still use Hotmail. and nothing changed.???

I originally thought it was a scam because there was no warning from hotmail that a change would be coming up and that is what they usually do, give some notice, there was no other option but to click somewhere on the page, I was being forced to click but decided not to, changed my password instead.
It did have me worried because most scam site's want you to click on a link and this is exactly what Hotmail have done, ask me to click on a page not knowing where it was going, that is why I changed my password, time will tell, in the meantime I am going to check on my gmail account, i'm still thinking about changing to that one.

A lot of security issues @ Hotmail recently.
My daughter had her email account hacked, all of her contacts received requests for money, they did not originate from her PC.
I use MS Outlook as a mail a/c, have done for years, never a problem.

we had the same probs with our hot mail we did every thing thet ask but after two days of messing around still could not get back in so we opt out and went to bigpond we were with hotmail for many years .never mind moved on now all the best fred

The problem with going to an ISP for your email account is that if ever you decide to move on from that ISP you instantly lose that email address or have to pay through the nose to keep it..
That is why I opted to go for a Google (Gmail) account no matter who my ISP is I still have my email address.

Microsoft Security Essentials no longer seems up to the task, I ended up with numerous unwanted programs and viruses and Trojans on my m/c and MSE just didn't find them, now use Avast free and it identified and removed most of my problems, I now use it in conjunction with Ccleaner and Malwarebytes to keep on top of things but it seems to be getting harder to protect yourself these days.
I have also used Gmail for many years with no problems and find that it has excellent spam filters.

that is the reason I went to Hotmail, also my ISP kept going slow and having drop out problems, now a new company has taken over and very few drop outs or slow downs.
Bob, with gmail how can a transfer all of my contacts from hotmail to gmail? can it be done?

if you google "import hotmail contacts to gmail account" I think you will find your answer.. I just printed them out from my old email account and them typed in the ones I wanted to keep...

I'd be staying with Microsoft security Essentials.
I'm with BG and suggest you stick with MSE afterall if Microsoft cant keep a Microsoft OS safe then who can....

Hi everyone, I am amazed somewhat that something so easy to rectify has become such an issue. All you do is give Hotmail an alternate address, within a few seconds a code will be sent there. Go back to your other email, place the code in there, and you will be on your way again without problems. Its so easy as Buddy Holly would sing lol. Btw Hotmail also offers Live Chat where you type to someone in real time. If your not sure where to type in an alternate email address, just click one of those little black down arrows ( triangle shape things) and a window will open, thats where you type another email address in.....Kisha.
