Having a good time here at Dawson River with Optus phone and Telstra internet all laid on.
Was here in September 2012 and scarcely recognized the place, the area previously camped was crowded and found another spot in a dip but with good sun for the solar. The best at Wuruma was a recorded 87AH but here on the first day was 97AH. All according to the regulator.
The dip could be a worry and it runs into the drainage pipes but I looked up the Moura weather forecast for the next week and feel confident that I won't get bogged. Should have read my blog before coming as it would have reminded me to get $1 coins for the showers.
Will be here until Saturday morning at least but have no definite plans after then, my original ideas were based on a different criteria and now other options have surfaced and I may head towards the coast.
The new frying pan has been getting a good work out lately with stuff from the freezer and tonight yet again. The plan is to cook potato bake in the camp oven and caramelize the onions then cook up the spring rolls in the campfire frying pan over the spirit stove. John

Hi John,
the potato bake came out well and I have plenty of time.
The solar charge controller is a Fangpusun PR 2020 and is pushing the limit handling 400watts of panels.

I was leaning the bus is relatively flat, but hey I never claimed to be a good photographer my excuse is getting to know the new camera I took several shots but didn't notice the lean on the one I posted. Point, shoot and post is my procedure.

Looks good John - green grass!!! We are in Longreach at Apex Park free camp - fills up every afternoon, empties early next day. We are on gravel!

I stayed at the Longreach waterhole could be the same place that you recommended near the paddle steamer.
All around here is green, coming from Biloela just before Banana you come over a crest and all you can see is green up to the horizon, beautiful

Glad to see everything honky dory john..any fish in that there river? I'm going down to the warfe where I am to try my luck ...this is a gem of a place .after what I just experienced ...2nd rate park at 4 star prices...went as far as the gravel.at cape trib beaut drive& it's free if you don't count the ferryman.everybody seemed to have there hand out for silly prices..my opinion I paid $ 30.00 to go on the cooper creek looking for crocs...no crocs not very good presentation & no farewell at the end so disappointed ..then I went to daintree here's this park with $10 a person croc cruise 2mins & saw the biggest croc with 2 little ones ...I'm staying here now till mon. Centrelink can afford this..great site & amenities net tv power water toilet I like this john did you ever stay here....

Yes Roy this is a stocked river so there will be fish for the skillful possessing a license, but not for me.
As far as the Daintree Village Caravan Park I did stay there on my Big Lap, photos and comment here :-

Having a great time here, coincidences abound, I was camped next to a lady who recognized me from the last visit and she was organizing a night out to the Moura RSL. A bus picked us up making 3 trips to collect over 30 campers and we had an inexpensive meal drinks and were driven back later.
Also my publicity manager Billeee must have done a good job because a passing lady recognized me from the forum although she isn't a member then talking to her and her husband was shown a collapsible Coleman Camp Oven. It was just what I needed to warm up stuff without using the microwave every time so I bought one from Kellys Camping and I looks like I will be here until it gets delivered to the Moura Post Office late next week. John

I bought one of those a while back John. Haven't used it yet. It's very easy to set up, and for folks who don't know, folds almost flat, so doesn't take up any room.

Fishing licences in Qld are called Stocked impoundment permits , and are for lakes stocked with catchable fish, and are about $38. I don,t think you need one in the Dawson, and in any case , if you are a pensioner, you don,t need any fishing lic. in Qld. Bill

We have another visitor here at Dawson River, Rod (Rover) arrived yesterday and with him came ?Nataya? the lovely Thai lady who looked after Roy (Highwayman) when he was sick. She had planned to travel north with us but I left Wuruma to get the bus fixed before she returned and luckily Rod was still there.
We will see how much support we can get for another Thursday night at the RSL, I will do a bit of canvassing for numbers and hopefully will get enough for at least one busload.
The broad plan is to leave here on Monday for a week at Baralaba followed by a week at Bedford Wier then a day or so in Emerald. So much for the broad plan we will see how it works out. John.

We had a terrific time at Bedford Weir - have gone further west now - presently at Boulia having taken The Outback Way from Winton, through the Lilleyvale Hills, and Cawnpore - spectacular scenery - if you are heading over this way it is well worth the drive - good camp spots at Hilton Hotel, opposite the Middleton Hotel, Val there serves a great meal at a very reasonable price as well - $13 each for silverside, mash ands beans - plenty of it, also sausages, fat chips and eggs - all very yummy!
After the Cawnpore lookout - next stop was the Hamilton Channels - at the hotel ruins - beautiful, drinkable water, cold shower, toilets and rubbish bins - a good stop. Into Boulia this morning, camped behind the racecourse right on the Burke River - very nice!
