Jenny got offered a really good deal at her work on a 7" Pendopad tablet running android 4.4 Jellybean so she bought it thinking she could load Wikicamps and use it as we travel to look up things...

The idea was great untill we couldn't load wikicamps no matter how hard we tried..

We eventually went onto the Wikicamps facebook page and asked there..

It seems that this version of the Pendopad doesn't support Google Play and it cannot be loaded.. (something about licencing with Google and Pendo) so it is no good to us..

She is going to try and return it tonight when she gets to work..

Our research also found that if you want Wikicamps to work at it's very best you also need to have a unit that has GPS built into it..

I have been told the tablet with Android is best as it is more compatible with loading Apps of all kinds, does that tally with your research?

$99 at Dick Smith I believe.
I'd never heard of them myself until now and did a Google.
You can get the Play Store to work though.

 Apple's iTunes carries far more apps than Google Play (android) but that doesn't mean you can't get all the apps you will ever need from the Play store.

I use an iPod Touch and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (Android Jelly Bean 4.3) and have no problem getting every app I need.

BTW - I prefer Android to iOS. Far more flexible system with none of the restrictions found on iOS.

 Again, you get what you pay for.

The minimum I have paid for a tablet is $199 for a Blackberry Playbook on special and even it needs an internet connection for the GPS to work.

Have a look at the specs of some of the major brands of tablet then compare them to the ZTE.

For example: Hard Drive Capacity 500 MB. My phone has 16Gb (32 times more). You may fit around 20 apps on it if you are lucky. I have about 100 on my phone and counting.

Processor Speed 600 MHz. My phone is three times faster than that at least.

Installed RAM 512MB. Mine has 2Gb

Display Max. Resolution 800 x 480. Most decent tablets are in the range of 1280 x 720 minimum.

Mind you I have a ZTE (Telstra) WiFi modem and it is great but even it cost more than $99.

The only way I would even contemplate a tablet like this is if I could go into a store and see it running but for $99 you may consider it worth the risk.

 PS. Also consider the "Condition" of that listed item:-

New: Never Used: A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed. The item may be a factory second or a new, unused item with defects.

Sorry to say :way over priced and very slow and to small for today's standard for what you get Bob

Voted as best 7'tablet
and has GPS build into it

It has everything I need then some..

I haven't heard of that one Bobbus, but maybe Vegemite Bob will know.

Although expensive, someone told me that the Samsung Android was best, not sure of all the bells and whistles though.

Also someone told me that if you're looking at the size of tablets, you can get a mini-tablet, bigger than a phone but smaller than the full size tablet, anyone know anything about them.

I purchased one of the TF101 with the keyboard dock about 2 yrs ago and love it. It did need a repair last year and it was out of the 12mth warranty but it was fixed free of charge. Cannot fault it. I much prefer the flexibility of this to the IPad. It has a microsd and usb slots, which I can use to transfer files from my desktop. I did have to buy an Asus 7inch to take overseas last year and that also is good.

I have a Nexus 7 and it's great, I love it. 

There's nothing wrong with the Samsung tablets and they have gps. The 10.1 inch screen is a good size for us old farts and fartettes. I have wikicamps and a heap of apps including stellerium. Mine is a tab 2 and has no problem doing all I need.

Jenny was able to return the Pendopad7 and get a full refund and they said they are getting a lot back for the same reason..NO Google Play..

I still haven't committed to anything yet but have my eye on a couple..

I can't see any mention of it.

I've never heard of this one either but that's probably because I steer clear of anything Chinese and/or not main stream.

I have seen some reports from owners of the C94.

One said and I quote:

We have bitten the bullet and bought THIS one..

Atleast it is a well known brand unit and has everything we need including 32gb of memory and good screen resolution..

I have taken onboard all the advice and it seems to tick most boxes..

I think you will be very happy and I have just told a friend about the seller, as she is looking for a 10inch.

 I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and wouldn't have anything else. Does it all flawlessly.

I will probably get the Galaxy Note 8.0 next. Larger screen but can still be used as a phone and can be charged in a reasonable time. Not cheap though.

I generally buy my phones on the grey market. They are sold locally but sourced overseas. Mine ended up being a French model but it doesn't matter as long as the specs are ok for Australia. Basically you get the phone at a discounted price and GST free. Also the warranty is provided locally by the supplier not the manufacturer so that should be taken into consideration.

I've bought about 5 phones like this over the years and never had a problem.

 That looks pretty good and from some of the reviews I've just seen from local buyers they are very happy with it.

Some big players like Dick Smith and Bing Lee sell these so that tells you something about the quality.

That's a great cash back deal as well. Can't go wrong IMHO.

 Don't sweat it, we all have the same problem.

It's not the phone that is the problem in my experience, it's learning how the various apps work that takes up all my time

I recently bought a cheap Nav N Go GPS for the car and it has a 91 page manual to wade through!

 You won't lose anything. Just follow the instructions Apple provide.
