Oh yes - sherbert bombs - yummo - and acid drops - mint leaves -black cats - dolly varden selection for Darrel Lea! (Little jar of boiled lollies). Clinkers - Pez with the dispenser - fantales - loved em all, and I don't have a sweet tooth normally!

Licorice Squares "Blocks" were my favourites 4 a penny.
We used to have competitions as to who got the most each day. They used to be sold out of a box of big squares, I would guess probably 12 across and 12 up, some boys would come away from the tuck shop with 3 or 4 big squares at a time. You mouth would be black for the rest of the day. Yum.
Has anyone noticed how the flavour of Licorice has changed these days???

I found a shop in Mildura when there a couple of weeks ago and they sold all of the above. I hate to admit it, but I did come out with a couple of Choo Choo bars and I must say they were both very nice indeed.
The shop was in Eighth Street if you are in the area and get that urge for a lolly.

I LOVED Licorice All Sorts ..... used to pull them apart, lick and suck the coloured high sugar bits ... then put the licorice squares in my mouth and suck them till they were gone.
Mates I forgot that's what they were called not buddies, I to sucked the licorice all sorts and still do sometimes, and I buy a bag of small soft choo choo bars and forget they make yr mouth black when I chomp on them at work....

Cobbers, freckles, musksticks, licorice strips (about 12" long), rosy apples, red and green blocks, clinkers, milkbottles, green leaves (peppermint), milkshakes from Allens, coconut quivers from Allens were my absolute favourite and they came in a box.

I hated musk sticks and bananas, sherbert cones and boiled lollies. Hated them - would rather starve!
Give me a bag of freckles, bullets, cobbers, liquorice blocks and those red umbrellas, with a choochoo bar chaser....yum...... and those gobstoppers.
Mum used to like those sugar coated peanuts with thick red sugarry coating, and sometimes (well always) she shared them.

I am a lolly-aholic, I have to admit, seems to run in our family, but these days I try to control myself.
Cobbers were a favourite, 3 for a penny, white knights, choo choo bars, peppermint leaves, rasberries, chicos, milk bottles, sherbert cones...sherbert ain't what it used to be...columbines, fantales, those green & red balls on a stick? Can't remember what they were called. Bananas, fags, redskins.
I remember a boy in class chewing a black cat behind his book. He blew a huge bubble, teacher came along and pulled the book away and it had popped all over his face.

Anyone could have had all of my sweets for a sausage roll, salted peanuts or the like. I hated those birthday parties where the mum was a sugarholic and the boys' preference for savouries was neglected.
Soft, gelatine based jubes or limited licorice maybe.

Now ya talkin' ..... still my favourite savoury treat ... SAUSAGE ROLL ... fresh from a proper bakery, not the ones in cellophane or mass-produced and delivered to the shop.
Having now thought about a proper bakery .... all time favourite of ALL food was the vanilla slice.
no................trade it all in for tuppence worth of hot chips with vinegar, wrapped in newspaper on a colder winter evening, catching the bus home.

Lollies: My favourites were cobbers, fantales, marella Jubes, jaffas, bullets...and Smith's chips.
Favourite bakery items were: (and still are) vanilla slice, apple slice, sausage roll, pie and peas. Fernvale Bakery is great. Fortunately...or maybe unfortunately it is only about 10 minutes drive from me.
