Does or has anyone had problems with their wireless internet.
We got out box thingy the other day (Blue did the hook up) and now find it almost as slow as dial up used to be.
It also chucks your connection off REGULARLY. Sometimes it is all the connections you have and sometimes just a select one or two. Like I can be in the middle of reading or posting here and whamoo connection lost.
Have checked out all the connections, made sure the aerial is in a good place, the meter says we have good coverage but......
It's driving me insane..........or should that be MORE insane..........

Hi Ma & Blue, I use wireless all the time, my isp is through telstra and while it can be slow sometimes loading a page it generally is reasonable and rarely drops out. It appears to be signal issue; do you have any neighbours using wireless having the same problem?
Using wireless Ma, remember to change the factory default code to one of your selection........my neighbour nearly died when I told him who good it was using his broadband...he hadnt changed default.
Hope its of some use or maybe another forum member has an answer for you,
and get well soon!
cheers

Ma, just a thought, did you use a double splitter filter, ie, one for home landline and one for modem?

On further reflection Ma, try turning modem off and remove from power source for 5 mins, I seem to recall when I first used w/less that I had a problem and the above reset the modem. If you have a local library then the wireless for dummies is a good book to brush up on with some good tips on security etc.
Time for beauty sleep.........night Blue

Ma, I've got wireless broadband. It usually works very well but for about a fortnight now it has been chucking me off too. If it keeps doing it I will be ringing Telstra. Also I have noticed tonight it has been very slow. I checked my usage to make sure I hadn't gone to my limit and been slowed down but No I am only half way through my limit, so don't know why it is doing that tonight. I turned it off for a while and it seems to have quickened up now.

We even rang Telstra Tech Support, 3 times and 3 times they were to get back to us......go figure..........they get your money and then dump you it seems.

If you go over your download limit, the speed usually slows down , considerably.I have only a 1gig limit , soI have to watch that I don,t do any big downloads. An external aerial definately makes a difference when in fringe areas.I once got signal 220 klms north west of Booraloola!Tech help can be a battle at times. I am with Telstra, only because they are the best coverage in the bush, otherwise, they are too expensive.

There is a setting somewhere on the computer that will log you off if it is idle for any length of time...now I will try and think where it is so you can maybe change it ????

Friends I was travelling Qld with recently, are now in the outback somewhere, and they've also had trouble with their WiFi. They rang Telstra a few times and it seems they're being given a new modem. Last I heard from them, they were hoping the person in India understood to send it to the CP they were heading for in Alice Springs, and not to their home in Toowoomba or the CP they were in Mt Isa!
I said good luck with that!

Wireless broadband is never ever going to give us broadband reception that satellite does .
We have to get used to that .

Darling on Bigpond if you have a Wifi device you dont have to change anything. Bigpond install dont allow you to set up a connection that is not secure. If you are using USB no need to change anything. Darling playing with your security settings without knowing what you are doing darling you could change something to make on open connection.
Darling the issue is Bigpond modems are rubbish. Darling if you buy a Maxon Cmotech modem second hand your problems will vanish. Darling Jacko now has no Bigpond pain anymore Jacko has a quality modem. Darling if you changed to Telstra and used a ZTE modem you would not have any more pain. Darling Jacko is a vet surgeon but darling Jacko also has IT degree.

Darling wireless is faster and superior to satellite. Darling the latency of satellite internet is nothing short of painful. Darling with quality Bigpond equipment and aerial not many locations you dont get good coverage and speed. Darling if you have a Sierra Wireless device darling you are hosed and in trouble.
