Footprint. Do I need one?
(Preview)
I didn't know what a footprint was until I did some searching for ground sheets. I decided to buy a Black Wolf Tuff Dome tent that has a base of around 2.4m square. Should I bother with a footprint and if so go with a pre-made one (generally expensive) or make my own from cheapish material? Has anyone had an...

As in the heading, they must hold about a weeks supply of each, be ant proof, airtight, not too heavy and all the same size or near enough. Also must not have lids that rattle or unscrew themselves yet must be easy to remove and replace. Something that can hold about a large cupful would do. We've looked f...

Finding your way around
(Preview)
I am trying to get organized to do some tripping. I was wondering what the seasoned traveler was using for navigation especially for the free and low cost sites. There are soooo many books out there and other gizmos that I don't know which I should be buying. Money is not in abundance in our household. I w...

Cords flapping in the wind
(Preview)
The power cord connecting the power source, genny or power pole in CP, blows in the wind, causing the plughole cover to flap annoyingly in the wind. To solve this, we have put two self adhesive power cord clips (quite cheap) on the wall, and put the cord through them - the cord doesn't move, and the flap s...

Cleaning burnt saucepans

Burnt the beetroot I was cooking tonight (caught it just in time - perhaps -so beetroot were still OK). I filled the saucepan with boiling water (not cold as it was still very hot) - added some bicarb soda and when it started to bubble added some vinegar. (Be careful it doesn't go over the top). Boiled it f...

Covere for BabyQ

Purchased a Weber BabyQ recently, and wanted a cover for it, as it lives in the underbed storage, and also while out under the awning, to keep dust etc., out. Bought one of the cheap stripy bags - the largest one - cut the handle end off till it was the perfect size to fit over the bbq, also goes under the feet...

comfortable bedding
(Preview)
We recently purchased a Queen size foam mattress topping from Clark Rubber for around $180. We call it an Egg Shell mattress. I marked the shape of our queen size bed with a nikko pen, and then cut the egg shell to shape using a electric bread knife. A standard bread cutting knife would be ok, but I guessin...

Difficult 3 pin plugs - insertion and removal.
(Preview)
Maybe I'm the only one, but the newer types of wall electrical outlets and the newer style of 3 pin plugs seem to be harder to insert and remove. They feel rough and seem to grab on removal....just a cheap feeling about it. Maybe it's the cheap and nasty electrical items we can only buy these days but it got...

Steel step non-slip
(Preview)
Was just down at SuperCheap and bought a adhesive backed non-slip ribbed rubber pad for the step on our Avan - never seen these before and for under $5 it should help avoid a slip or two on the steel surface. They seem to be fairly decent quality and I'll clean the step first with petrol.
