Researching bespoke van fitout.
(Preview)
This post is more about caravan building than GNing. I am kinda thinking aloud rather than making a specific point and would welcome anyone's two bob's worth. I am presently fitting out an old van to live/travel in. I envisage a 50k/day longstay freecamp lifestyle. I am solo and have a Cruiser / 24 fo...

Tyres
(Preview)
Quite often when travelling you come across a van or trailer with a blown tyre. After 6 years tyres start to break down and by 7 years the tyres will fail. Some people think that because tyres look new with plenty of tread they are ok. If you google the DOT code on a tyre it can tell you how old the tyre is. Hope...

Hi all A lot has been said about both of these fine products. I will give you my point of view. We have camps 7 (the book) and wikicamps on my iPhone and ipad. As far as I am concerned and despite some minor glitches wikicamps comes out on top every time, I have not opened camps 7 since I bought it. We recently w...

Are you looking for a place to hang stuff?
(

(Preview)
hi all, I was walking around Bunnings one day and saw some "broom clips" decided to put them on the side of the van to hang stuff. Be a bit careful when you screw into the side, there may be electrical cables, I'm lucky to have a volt stick to detect the voltage. This all works a treat. Of course th...

Cleaning the Van
(Preview)
Just cleaned the van. I used a long ladder to climb up on top of the van and then placed a couple of 1m X 1 m pieces of plywood on roof for me to stand on. Spread the weight evenly and no issues re weight. Used a bucket and mop detergent and did a good job. I sure would like to be able to get that wet look all over the...

Clothes storage.
(Preview)
We are planning upgrading our van over the next couple of years preparing for retirement. I have been wondering what those on the road for long periods or permanently do to keep their clothes stored and neat. Presently we are only away for a few days at a time and tend to live out of the suitcase. Interest...

Ramps and handrail for the disabled

My wife needs a hip replacement and also has other issues with her lower back and right leg, so climbing up and down steps is very painful. I saw this idea on a van in Victoria last year and decided to do it for her. We have also acquired a Gopher for her so she can get around at free camps and caravan parks. I bo...

Fire Starter
(Preview)
Collect a few pumice stones about the same size as a normal fire starter and keep them in a small jar of kero. Take one out as required, works very well. If you can find it in the fire after it goes out it can be re used. -- Edited by grahamg on Tuesday 19th of May 2015 08:41:13 AM

Old Scrubbers.
(Preview)
Save all your old toothbrushes, green and yellow pot scourers, etc. Can be used for scrubbing footwear and anything else that doesn't need clean water, plus nooks and crannies around the wheels. Use you old dishwash water and have a good old scrub. I've just done my (foot) thongs. Came up well.

Installation of Planar Diesel Heater in Coromal

Have finished the installation and thought I'd share with whoever was interested. First issue was the heater bolts were not long enough to get thru the floor, so attached it to the optional plate and secured this to the floor. Also ordered a muffler which didn't quite fit the exhaust pipe. Had a sta...
