 Hello Peter

Agree support the RFDS

I was once transported by ambulance to a small hospital, and then helicopter to burns hospital, in Western Australia

Wife received a bill from the ambulance, as we were not in the St John Ambulance Fund, but a Private Health Fund, which covered ambulance

We did not receive a bill for the helicopter ride, I have no idea if my employer received a bill, as by the time I able to return to work, I was at retirement age

What confuses me a little bit is what exactly is an, "Air Ambulance?" as compared the the Royal Doctor Flying Service

I have read that sometimes the Air Ambulance will subby to the RFDS

For SA residents with private health Care (and no SA Ambulance Cover... I understand) BUPA could be an option...

I do not work for Bupa, just a paid up member and there may be better alternatives available

 Hello Peter

In Western Australia HBF will cover for a road ambulance, but not an Air Ambulance
Link below
https://www.hbf.com.au/health-insurance/cover-options#/package

I am led to believe that Medibank Private, will cover for both road and air ambulance, but I have not looked into it deeply just yet, as I pay HBF six monthly

Perhaps others have more information

I have been stung for an ambo trip fromAlbury to Melb that almost broke me. Have always had cover since.

But, I believe that ambulance cover should be free to all as part of our national health system. Imagine if you got a bill from the fire brigade after a fire.

Basically if you have money for cover your ok. But millions of Australian are not covered because they simply cant afford it.
