JUNE 2018 UPDATE

Bloody computers!

Gday and welcome to my June update. Sit back with a coffee or something stronger and read away. It won't take long this month, really.

The month started with very cold mornings, like 0c-2c yep, cold, Brrrrrrr. Well for me anyway cos at this time of the year I am normally in the tropics and enjoying the Townsville weather. No problems though as I continue with the house sit in Wonthaggi, south west Gippsland VIC.

Speaking of weather, I will do the weather report now. The month started with those cold mornings I mentioned earlier and continued for the rest of the month but the days varied a lot from low to mid-teens with rain on and off and the same with winds. Some winds were bitterly cold. Still ice and Polar Bears are not far to the south I spose. That said, on the weekend of 16th and 17th Im pretty sure I saw a polar bear walk down the street. Strong Arctic winds both days and two days prior. We did get some sunny days and that was welcomed by this little black duck and I tell you that for free. I will not make comment on the -1c mornings, yes on more than one morning.

Moving away from the weather, the month started by visiting good GN friends on the Mornington Peninsula and as always good to see them again. The day was spent chatting and eating, nothing strange there when the five us get together. Thanks Cheryl, Brian, Lorraine and Brandt.

At the time of the visit I had a cough that got worse as the day progressed and within a few days I was grounded. The cough was at times nearly choking me and I had trouble getting in to see a local medicine man, even though I used to go there for many moons. I finally got in and was put on medication to assist. All up I was sort of out of action for 3 weeks in the end. I just stayed away from as many people as possible. Just in case. All good now.

I did however have a drive around the area and you see some really nice things and places so every now and then stopped and took a few pics. I have included a few below. That was about all I could do most of the month due to the health and keeping away from people as much as possible. I hope to get out and about a little more during July as I will still be in the same area and continuing the house sit.

Just as well I came good because I got a phone call from a GN and good friend that he was heading in my direction to visit. The day arrived and we spent time chatting and catching up. John came across from the Sale area, east Gippsland VIC, so I really appreciated his visit. I also managed to visit my mate in Wonthaggi again as he was one I was keeping away from as I didn't want him getting whatever I had as he would have past it on to a bus load of kids. Nothing worse than a bus load of around 50 kids coughing and spluttering all over you. Gee Im thoughtful :) I also finally visited other people in Wonthaggi as well and good to see Marlene again and her partner Kevin. I managed to get to see my daughter and two grandsons as well so got my grandkids fix :)

The problem I had with the dogs I'm looking after that were barking all the time has settled to the point they very rarely bark at all now. Even when world war three breaks out with the four dogs next door, Sandy and Willow just sit there looking at the fence. You can just about here them telling their neighbours to SHUT UP. Well done Sandy and Willow, an extra treat is coming your way. Just stop the digging now and we will all be good mates. I heard somewhere to put the dogs own logs in the holes they dig and it stops them. Nope, they just started using that area as a toilet not the normal area they tend to use. I sorted that out in the end.

While I was doing my last months update and doing the emails to friends and family my Laptop decided in it's wisdom to go into a Windows Update, even though I thought I had set it not to do that but there ya go it did it. It took right over as I was in middle of doing the emails and I had already done the addresses and blocked me. It took over an hour before I could get back to my emails and then I discovered a few had taken off to cyberspace not to be found even though I sent out the search party. I had to find them out again and re enter into my contact list. Bloody Computers So if you get my updates every month by email and for some reason one month you don't get it let me know please as something might have happened and in many cases I don't know unless you tell me.

One thing I have noticed since I have been back in my old stomping ground even though it is only for a few months is how Wonthaggi and a couple of closer towns are rapidly growing, houses being built every where you look. Wonthaggi North is now a large area indeed, as is a little place about 7km west of Wonthaggi called Dalyston, a new housing estate is well on the way and will make that area much bigger. A move to the east side of Wonthaggi and about 13km away is Inverloch, also growing rapidly. Yep, progress I spose.

Well, the month has come to an end really quick this time, quicker than usual so enough from me, so until next time, keep safe everyone.

DOUG

Nice photos Dougwe we particularly like the Kilcunda sunset. A scene that we've enjoyed occasionally from the Killy Pub over dinner.

As soon as we're off 240 power & relying on battery power only, our laptop wants to do a Windows update or a Norton security scan that takes ages & lots of power. We reckon it deliberately likes to pee us off.

I am sure you will be in Townsville next year Doug and we can meet then. In the meantime I will think of you in the cold when I arrive in Townsville on 15/7 for 6 weeks.

Them Squaws of yours were a bit slack mate....all they needed was a large jar of Vicks to rub on your ailing body....

But is good that you managed to get help from the Medicine Man.

Lovely photos mate. Makes life more pleasurable for us arm chair travelers.

Thanks again....................Cheers

A good read Doug, so thanks for that

I had a bad bout of coughing/flu about fifteen years ago

Ever since that time, I have had the yearly flu shot, and it seems to have worked for me
