1914 Dennis Fire Engine completed

Mr D was recently presented with a 1:16 uncompleted Entex model of a 1914 Dennis fire engine. It was started about 40 years ago by our house host for or with one of his sons. Son was not interested, so daughter attempted part, with mistakes, but not irreparable. Passed on to his Brother in Law, who recently asked Mr D (via the local Mens Shed) if he would like to complete the project.

As Mr D likes making models (normally out of matchsticks) and being a past firee, and likes Dennis fire engines, he agreed to complete the project in April this year. As at Mid June the model is now complete, given a few 'fixes' and 'compromises'

Mr D feels that at some time the box containing all the bits may well have been run over by a fire engine, but has done his best to restore, and will donate back to Bright United Mens Shed (BUMS).

Thanks Tony, Thanks Possum,

the ladder was a fair challenge, everything works, even the wind up mechanism for the ladder, but too fragile to prove. One of the compromises was changing the old supplied "rope" for kitchen twine, which, in our opinion, looks more realistic.

Also, missing from the kit was the fittings for the lights. We bought some amber key tags, and cut light glass lenses out of them....

"Wow Wee"  What a ripper Mr D,

Surely you must know someone who collects models like this, and would be willing up to pay up to $ 50.00 plus freight for it !!!!  number1.gif number1.gif number1.gif

Thanks KiwiJims..... Would love to help out someone who collects models, but this one is destined to stay local. As it was started by a member of Bright United Mens Shed - BUMS (some 40 years ago and before mens shed was invented), passed on his de-facto brother-in-law, who is a member of  BUMS, then given to Mr D, who recently joined BUMS, we feel that it has to stay in the family, and will be donated back to BUMS in Bright, Victoria.

However, if you wish to purchase one, and have the patience, google ENTEX, there are heaps of models to buy, waiting to be made...

Hi & hope you are both well,

Great job & attention to detail as always.

In the 2 + years since your visit the only progress on our old huon pine spray pump has been to move it out of the cow paddock & onto the side of the driveway & I have brought a sander which is  still brand new. no   -  Perhaps I should visit our local mens shed & advise them on successful procrastination  techniques.smile

Regards to you both,

David & Jackie

Hello  D&J (daffiefrancis)

All is well, we are back in Victoria and doing time on the same property we were at before we visited you in Tasmania. Mr D says you should take the old huon spray pump to your men's shed and share the work..... personally I would not waste time on procrastination techniques at the MS,  better to put your time into restoration...

Lorraine & John (Dunmowin) (do you still have your boat?)

Hi again Lorraine & John,

Good idea to take the old spray pump to the local Mens Shed & I could supervise them  during their restoration workno

Yes we still have the boat but not used it as much the last 8 months as I have had a few health problems but much improved now just in time for some Tassie winter sailingcry

Hope you are both well & enjoying life.

D&J
