Getting closer

Hi all,

My wife and I  have been travelling a fair amount over the last 10 years but of course work restrictions have meant they have been nothing longer than 6 weeks. We are planning to sell up and hit the road next year.

Health issues is the biggest concern. I have leaukamia, in remission,  but still need daily meds. The meds are a section 100 drug which requires regular approval from the government, every 6 months I  believe. I have been seeing the same heamatologist for 14 years and will have to talk with him about whether I will require a visit to him every 6 months max or if there is some alternative.

I also have to see a vascular surgeon every 12 months at this stage due to a totally blocked artery in the neck. Making certain the rest are clear

I also need meds for hypertension, hyperlyperdemia,  and diabetes type 2. All side effects of the treatment for leaukamia,  so I  keep telling myself.

Once we get the planning sorted we will be selling the house and upgrading the patrol, only tows 2.5t and is already over gvm. Then off we go.

How do the rest of you cope with restricted medications and regular doctor/specialist visits whist on the road?

Peter

Welcome to the forum, Hottuna

Sorry to hear of your medical problems

Unfortunately I can not answer your question, as I am not a full time on the road traveller

Welcome to the gang Peter, enjoy here and out in the playground.

You sound like you already enjoy the playground so keep on keeping on.

Get a letter from your Doctor explaining your health and what has been done including the meds you are on. Then see who you need as you move around. If all that fails you could always just hop on a plane and go back for appointments, just a last minute thought on that bit.

I am full time in the playground and have a list of my meds I carry around with me. I also have an APP on my phone called 'ICE' Incase of emergency. I have my daughters and doctors that treated me contact numbers and list of meds and any probs I have had or got. So far I have not had to use it and hope it stays that way. My phone is not locked so those that need that info can access it. I risk others I spose.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

G'day Peter and welcome to the forum.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.  As far as the meds go we are not full time nomads (as yet) so will be interested in the replies you get as well.  As many of the forumites do not visit this section it could be worthwhile in repeating the question  in the Health and Wellbeing section.

Thx for the suggestion Dougwe

I will have a look at the app and perhaps remove the fingerprint scan to access my phone. Gotta make it easy if needed.
