We have, but typically don't go to the same place twice, or if we do, we get there by an entirely different route.
There are too many new places that we have not been to yet.

Cheers,
Peter

Last year we decided to join the Winter migration from Melbourne. We hadn't been up that way since doing two extended trips in the 80's.

We traveled up through Outback NSW & QLD, taking our time & enjoying some great bush camping on the way. Staying away from the coast was a priority as we'd done it twice before when things were a lot less touristy.

The trip there & back was a major part of the whole experience for us. Surprisingly the roads weren't that busy.

We stayed in a CP on the Capricorn Coast for 10 weeks & used it as a base to do day trips to places like Byfield National Park etc. It was pretty good, but we won't be repeating it.

We'll be doing an Outback NSW & QLD trip this coming Winter for around 8 weeks, not going anywhere near the coast. The ''real'' Australia is waiting out there away from commercialism.

Each to their own.

What's winter? Oh, cold weather, I assume.
Last year in Townsville "winter" lasted one week & a few days a month later where the minimum temperature got down to 10 degrees! Not like about 20 years ago when we would get the odd "chilly" night down to 4 or 5 degrees.
I recall one week when I was working where "winter" lasted a fortnight & I had to wear long pants to work.

This year? We're spending winter in Warrnambool! You Victorians know where it is - north of the big white continent & separated by the Southern Ocean! A family reunion & the arrival of a couple of grand children may keep us there for two months!

By the amount of caravans on our roads i thought there would b a lot more responses. Guess not many people who travel to qld from down south for the winter migration know about this forum.

Gday...

Unfortunately, if you were to conduct a survey and spoke to every van/motorhome you met while stationary along the way or camped of a night you would take a very long time to meet someone who knew about this forum (and the other forums for that matter) and even longer to meet someone who was a member. The next problem would be to find a traveller that was an active member on this forum who had heard of rocket- ie a regular poster to the forum. Hen's teeth I'm afraid. hmm

I have been on the road for nine years full-time and I have yet to meet someone at a camp that knew about this forum, or the other three I frequent irregularly. The only GNs I have found on the road have been a few who posted their location that luckily was where I was at the time they posted.

The only other way to have met someone was to send a PM and see if I could tee up a meeting time and place ... eg I was heading down to Rockhampton some years back and thought I'd PM Sheba when I was about two weeks away from Rocky. She was OK with a meet-up so we set a time and place and ultimately we met up. Lovely lady - one of the nicest, and most interesting, people I have had the privilege to meet.

Cheers -  all we can do is just enjoy whatever company we meet - John

Agree. I met a lady who is a member but have not seen her contribute. i saw nomad sticker on her car. And once at the woodford showgrounds i had said we were there on the site n someone  came looking for us but other than that, other meetups were planned With people on here.

 Totally agree!

We recently posted on another thread on this forum that we've never met anyone who belonged to this forum during our 5 year plus of travels.   http://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t64347661/grandmother-killed-by-motorhome-in-nsw/

I struck lucky at one camp last year. Was talking with a bloke who was on here, and was able to help him with a problem with his van. Was the only one though, so far.

Cheers, John.

As a QLDer we often head south in autumn, mainly to visit G/kids with a quick run along the Murray before the snow comes then scuttle back North, this year hoping for a tour of the Gemfields at Yowah before getting back home, diesel heater gets a work out.

The wife and I travel north from Tassie almost every year for about 6 weeks as I am still working. We travel up a different way each year either side of the Newell Hwy and return down the Pacific Hwy trying to stay in a different spot than on previous trips.

We try to freedom camp on the way up and stay in showgrounds on the way down with a few beachfront spots in caravan parks in touristy areas. We travel north faster if the weather is cold and wet, then slow down as the weather warms up. In 6 trips north we have never been above Rockhampton as we prefer to travel shorter distances as 6 weeks is not enough time to sensibly travel any further north. That will have to wait until retirement.

Have a look at my trips on the blog page below. There is lots of maps to see and you can search different Gategories on right of page. It will give you an idea for what you may like to do. The weather will change where you go sometimes so plenty of options are good. Listen to fellow travellers for ideas but everyone has different likes so go with your what feels good for you.

https://chrisanddiannesultimaadventure.wordpress.com/trips-to-the-mainland/

I find the best way to view each trip is click on select a month, always June for trips north, hover over calendar for the first post, the cursor will change to a finger, click on it. This will only give you one post at this stage. Click on heading, this will open the same page but when you scroll to the bottom of the page you will have the option to go to the previous or next post. The next post is on the right. This can be a bit frustrating for some people

The link below may make it easier for June 15 2015, our 4th trip for no particular reason. I have also added this link on the "Queensland 2015" page just now as well. Any feedback on whether this works for you would be welcome. After all I am still learning and probably always will be.

Yes Warren

They have thisaying in N.Q.

Winter only exits in the Dictionary.

How true.

We are heading up to God's country come April for a few months. No set plans.

Great part of the country during winter.
