Anyone Tried Crochet?

I've been thinking to monetize my skills lately, and I think crochet is one of my best skills which I can use to earn money and gain mastery at the same time. Anyone here who have tried crochet?

The Child-bride used to do cross stitch portraits and musical instruments - they were well liked but unable to recoup costs when selling. With this type of art, do it for the pleasure of creating as it is unlikely to turn a profit.

We have met several nomads that create all sorts of goodies again they are unable to recoup costs when selling - If you wish to earn money out on the road - Hairdressing and Dog Grooming services always seem to do well when they set up in a camp area, although they tend to be short lived as local businesses with overhead costs can't compete and Councils move in quick.

Hi Kendra, you will  never recoup your expenses in this craft, however, don't let that stop you. I crochet afghan rugs as we travel, and donate the to local charity/nursing homes as we go. All my Grandies have "on the road made" travel rugs, and ours grows every year  - it is almost a king size now.

Keep up the hobby/craft. Don't except monetary gain in return for the hours put in.

Lots of market stalls selling kitchen towels, plastic-bag holders, etc. They seem to make enough to buy the next bag of yard, but you will never recoup the time and effort that goes into rugs and blankets....IMHO

Yep have done heaps of crochet projects on the road. A good thought is if you are wanting to make some money from your crochet projects and you are on the road permanently or for long periods of time, make projects that target fellow nomads. Especially warmers for the winter months of any type. Seen a few fellow nomads setup stalls next to or under their awning at campgrounds etc with some success. Give it a go!!!

And there's nothing like crocheting in a warm sunny spot in the winter or around a campfire or under the shade of a tree in the summer with the awesome surrounding scenery we have in our Australian landscape. Wouldn't want to be anywhere else

But in general, if unsure on what to charge...to cover cost of materials, time and effort...wholesale is normally double the cost of materials used for the project and retail is triple.

Hi, You could have a look at sights like made.it.com.au to see what others are making and charging to give you a bit of an idea, but they might be factoring in things like insurances, packaging etc. so a guide only. Enjoy your crocheting work though. Cheers.

Image result for atlanticus cal

Just finishing Atlanticus CAL .....(not my photo...mine is reds, blues and aqua)....cant decide if I will take him away this week to finish, or leave him home......................and start another.

If anyone wants a challenge, I really recommend a CAL (crochet along) ....great experience.

not something you would sell though.....would need to charge more than loose change.
