Mudgee to Hill End.

Is the road to Hill End suitable to tow a caravan. I believe it is quite windy and narrow. Also can anyone suggest a  nice camp spot around Hill End.   Rod.

Many nomads take their vans to Hill End without issues, main thing is to use caution, there is one part where there is a 25km/h bend and a short steep incline and then a 35km/h bend at top of hill and just before Hargreaves the road does get a little windy, its smooth sailing from there, just a few bends here and there. The road is now fully tarred and the road between Hill End and Bathurst, which was the most windy has been improved. There are some rough patches between Mudgee and the hill, mainly bouncy, again use caution and when towing a van, wouldn't drive much over 70-80km/h on rough areas. The Glendora campground in town and the one just out of town are both nice to stop at, unpowered is $8.00 per person per night and powered is around $12.00 per person per night. There are a few that will find a spot on the common which is fine to do if you prefer to stay clear of campgrounds. The campground in town has grassy sites and has limited sites but one just out of town is quite large, just dusty. Both campgrounds have toilet and coin operated hot showers, the one in town has a laundry. Hill End is a beautiful spot to stop, highly recommend you go, definitely worth the trip.

We took the van into Hill End. What an interesting town and lovely Village campground. Both roads in are sealed all the way and in ok condition. Both roads have a steep winding section but are ok for the van, just take your time and drive carefully. Well worth it. Rod.
