From memory Greens Lake is about 60 kilometres west of Shepparton, on the Midland Highway

Not sure if that is too far away for you

Hope that the info is useful to you

Shepparton where no-one works, everyone wears moccasins & has tattoos/piercings. Great place TO STAY AWAY FROM. Keep everything locked up.

Greens Lake might be a bit far for you if you only have the motorhome and need to be there early.
There is always Girgarre which is approx halfway. Has showers, toilets and drinking water.
They do appreciate a donation.

Boy that is not a good report.

Our son lives in shepparton and I can say that they have never experienced any issue that you hinted.

Now for a camp spot. ... Yes Green Lake is a great spot, but if you have wiki camp there is a spot out near

the southern suburb called Kialla.

I agree JayDee, nothing like mentioned above. Strange how every time I go there the shops and industry areas all have people working. Good people too. All Cities/Towns etc have unemployment problems for whatever reasons.

Desert Dweller Me thinks you may have stayed out in the desert too long and the sun has got to you. We have relations living in Shepparton and have visited the place many times over many years and found it to be a most attractive city.
If we chose to live in Victoria it would be our first choice.
Cheers

Scout camp at Kialla, on the Goulburn River. Nice spot -as JayDee said- just down the road

Lakeside is beside the large lake near Shepp central. Tower motel down the road is reasonable price. I lived there short time. Not a bad city at all. No worse than any other.

We stayed at Scout camp at Kialla in late April and it was great. Just need to be careful driving in if is has been raining as there are some large deep puddles in the road.

Let's hear your life story.  Bet it includes Wilcannia as well.

Desert Dweller said virtually the same things about Wilcannia.

Yep it's a great place, it has the highest crime rate in provincial Victoria, a huge drug culture, high unemployment, bogans & bikies.

Try the Broken Creek camp near Benalla, basic with drop hole toilet. $10. Desert Dweller, please change your name to Benthic Dweller, your comments are not well received by a local!

Maybe Desert Dweller should check his own area for crime statistics before he decides to cast aspersions on others.

Wiki camps is a good resourse for searching out camp locations.

well worth the $8image.jpeg

Desert dweller. Allow me to take you up on your comments Firstly your negative comments had nothing to contribute towards the original posters question You plucked out a media article that could have been written about any regional Victorian city You've gone out of your way to tarnish people in that city As your comments had zilch to do with answering the query, it means anytime Shepparton is mentioned you feel the hunger of condemnation . Speaking as someone who's lived there and worked extensively in all major Victorian and southern NSW towns in my previous profession. "Bogans" in your eyes might be unsavoury, but I'd trust my life with one above a pompous rump. Nastiness isnt friendly

G'day folks, yep old DD has plenty of "form" when it comes to unqualified bagging, and misinformation with no research to support it, so much so that one would have to wonder if  DD likes nothing better than a good old stir, or could it be that he is naturally this nasty? Shepp is no better or worse than any other place of it's size in Oz, the drug problem is country wide,  they even have this problem in the Sandringham/Black Rock/Beaumaris area of Melbourne where a couple of our posters are residents.

If this is the best that you can do DD go and reside in the desert permanently, preferably with NO internet.

We stayed for 2 nights at Shepparton Victoria Lake Holiday Park about 2 yrs ago, the closest CP to town (walking distance from the centre). It's an older park but spacious, nice grounds and lake. Being in our pre-caravan days we occupied a cabin, so can't comment on the amenities block. There's a public walking track right through the park but we didn't feel it created any disturbances at all. The only watch out we'd mention is the rail line that skirts southern boundary of the park - can be VERY noisy with freight trains overnight/pre-dawn. The park rates 3 stars on wikicamps which I think is about right.

As for Shepparton itself, we found it perfectly pleasant, clean, good services and shops, nice surrounds. The place had a "buzz" and appeared prosperous enough, even new housing estates going up with some pretty nice homes being built.

Me thinks you may have a touch of the sun stroke, and perhaps dwelling in the desert for too long, Kimmu Sabi. The Teepee may require more sun shade protection. And of course I am sure that you must live in the safest suburb/town on earth? Please reply by smoke signals. disbeliefnobleh

I would like to apologise to Splottboy for the un-related comments about Shepparton, by one of our members. There is always one, who has probably never been anywhere near the place they are bagging, merely going on "the media", who feels the need to comment. Best to ignore them.
