Music for long trips

I have an early model 2004 Pajero and intend doing some long drive trips now that we have a camper. I was wondering what to do about cutting down the amount of CD'S that I had to carry and the options that were available to me. The Stereo in the car does not have a a USB inlet and I had decided that I could put a lot of music on a flash Drive or two, to make for a more compact music library. I questioned the guys at the local Jaycar store and after weighing up the options the young guy suggested a FM transmitter would do the trick. Plug it into the cigarette lighter, select an unused FM frequency and plug in the thumb drive. The music has to be in the MP3 format and after a bit of mucking around formatting the drives and adding the music, it works very well, really good sound, I am a pleased customer, and it only cost $11.99. Bargain, and it comes with a remote also.

Thanks JayCar.

Thats a great result there.
Some times too easy to spend lots of cash on a new head unit just for the usb/blue tooth inputs.
Loving the idea of the remote, how far do you sit from the 12v socket?

I haven't tried the remote as controls are on the unit itself its only a bit bigger than a usb stick has a digital readout, and a gigarette lighter plug attached, just plug into the socket and it fires up, select my preselected channel and it works.

Previously we had an NP (2005) that had a 6 stacker in it which we put our favourite tracks onto home made CDs and these just repeated but got boring so went the USB way, also recommended by our local Jaycar staff.

No we have a 2017 Pajero which has 2 X USB input in the top part of the glovebox as well as Apple Carplay/Android Auto. I made up a new bigger (64Gb) USB that has pretty much all the music we have at home, both vinyl and CD this simply plugs in of course, tap the USB icon on the 7in touch screen an away it goes. Only 1 USB can be used at a time though, eg. if you plug in (as I did) a kindle to charge up it cuts out the USB music. If a phone is plugged in to the 2nd USB port it all works fine.

I had a FM transmitter and a USB with about 200 songs on, as my car only had a tape and not a CD player

It was good for my first lap

Consider a FM transmitter with Bluetooth:

You can use a USB stick with it or, far better, use your phone/tablet to send audio to it - using the phone enables you to easily select what you want to hear rather than be stuck with whatever you put onto the USB stick. Probably more important for those of us who listen to spoken word audio more than music.

You want music and driving.

Half a doz Santana LP's on a chip.
Along with "Dire Straights", ELLA. Satch. Sibelius, Mahler.
and Ellington.
With a little Celene Dion for afters.

WHO Needs words.

You get too many of them in normal life.

Get some real music in your life.
Mahler takes you off into your own cloudbanks.

I have a little thing that sticks into a ciggy lighter. and takes Sd\Micro SD.
with lotsa music on them (2 x 64gig)

Plays through ute radio on Bluetooth.
