Just joined up

Hi everyone. Just became a member of the greynomads group. Hope to pick up interesting points on destinations and whats going on in the caravanning world. I have a 100 series sahara diesel that pulls a 22 foot compass van. A 3.7 meter tinnie comes along for the ride on most trips. We have done QLD, NT Vic and NSW fairly well and will be setting off around the country in July for a bit over 4 months.  Darwin around through Perth and across to Adelaide will be new territory for us, so I'm looking for as much info as I can get.

While "grey nomads" is the well know term for us older travellers, I have heard the term "Wallets on wheels" used in outback QLD by the locals.  It is a clear indication that many businesses and towns do appreciate the money we bring into their local economy.

Safe travels and hope to catch up with many of you at the obligatory  "happy hour" get togethers.

Cheers Bob and Jackie  YASS  NSW

A very warm welcome from me also, BOB N JACKIE

Darwin, back to Kathrine, to Perth, to Adelaide, is no problem, it is bitumen all the way

Just about every service station, out of the populated areas, has a small caravan park attached

Also apart from the Perth area, there are plenty of free camps along the route

Hope that this info is useful to you

Thanks Tony. We are all set up for free camping so that's our first choice and use WikiCamps but it is good to hear about the facilities at most servos as a back up.

Welcome to the forum Bob n Jackie.  Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.

Gday Bob and Jackie welcome to the forum you will find some very knowledgeable and helpful people on the forum my little bit of info when crossing the Nullabour take your time there is heaps to see and get a strip map from the tourist office in Ceduna or Norseman it has heaps of info and they will also be able to give you info on prevailing winds for the next couple of days, this info can make a significant change to your fuel consumption.
