We stayed at the Arltunga Caravan/camp park a number of years ago. Lots pf history there but it's just out of your distance.
Question, how long would any of this group's members push a wheelbarrow with all your goods & chattels in it to make your El Dorado in this area in temps up to 50+ degrees with no known water supplies, etc, That's what they did at Arltunga!
It was hot enough when we were there in a September.
Peter's suggestions are good. At Chamber's Pillar (Chambers was the bloke who financed Stuart's forays into the centre, also double crossed him too - read "Mr Stuart's Track" by John Bailey) has some interesting writing (we call it graffiti) from the blokes who worked on the overland telegraph - that is if you can still get close enough, now.
The track in was very "interesting" - they may have a good road in there now.
Rainbow Valley - colours are magnificent!

If you don't get it done today, there's always tomorrow!
There are plenty of spots where you can pull off the Lasseter Hwy. There are also a number of rest stops where you can camp for 24 hrs. A good one near Mt Connor might suit you.
Trephina Gorge is an excellent place to stay a while - plenty to see & commit to canvas Ross River Resort, the 'end of the line' has a pleasant camping area, some good food, and could be a beaut base to explore various gorges in the region Arltunga Historical Reserve - when we were there last in 2014 - was a lonely, desolate place ... which might be what you're looking for too
