Camping fee Hike in Victorian National Parks

Recently we heard about a large increase in the cost of camping in Victorias National Parks.

Example: Middle Creek camp ground, Mount Buangor, $37.80 per night. Toilets, yes, water yes but undrinkable.

·         -  Nearby caravan parks charge $35 - $45 per night powered depending on the seasons.

Example: Tidal River, Wilson's Promontory National Park. $59.20 per night. Many amenities but no power.

·          - Nearby caravan parks charge $25 - $50 per night unpowered depending on the seasons.

Is this a reaction to a caravan park lobby to stop us camping cheaply?

One of our contacts approached the Victorian Parks organisation and was told (hearsay) that the Vic government was aiming to collect more monies to maintain services, but ultimately wanted people such as us to stop camping in the State/National parks.

We have also brought the issue to the attention of the CMCA in the hope they will complain to the authorities.  In the meantime we have sent complaint emails ourselves to the Victorian Tourism Minister & the Environment Minister (who administer the parks).

Whilst the hike in the Victorian fees has been brought to our attention, if you know of any other cheap camping options which have also taken a jump, put it on a Forum, send letters & emails and get in the authorities faces to get the message out that we are not going to take it lying down.

Apparently the new State Government is disposing of the new fees to camp in Vic National Parks.
