We will be in SA this year

We are planning to be in SA for about 8 months this year leaving Melb about the early April. We spent some time in SA a couple of years ago around the Limestone coast area. We free camp mostly but use CP from  time to time as needed. Now comes the ask, we realized that we know very little about this state, so if you have been to a place in SA that really worked for you we would love to be able to share that experience as well. Please leave your input on this forum or if it suits just PM If that suits you better.

Thanking you in advance for your input to our journey.smilesmilesmilesmile

Hi Brian and Cheryl. We did Yorke Peninsular last year and loved it - even though we had a lot of wet days (it was winter time!). It is so small across that we found it good to centre ourselves in Minlaton (nice park, $20/night, big sites) and drove out from there each day. We used a lot of the dirt roads and found them in good condition. They were wide and well graded as they take their farm machinery on them. Also enjoyed the coastal areas, right down south etc. There are free cmaps along the coast but we found some of them really only had room for one van. We also stayed at Moonta and loved the Cornish history of the place. And had 2 nights at Wallaroo. We had to get things done to the car and Kadina is the main service centre. We've also enjoyed Eyre Peninsular but so long ago I'd let someone else tell you more of that. Hahndorf is lovely. Victor Harbour is great. Kangaroo Is is fantastic - but it costs to go across on the ferry with the van. But well worth seeing. Hope others post about other places. Flinders is great too.

You must put Streaky Bay on your list briche, great spot! Even if you dont fish (we dont) theres a lovely beach, long walks, and a nice drive south to see seals and 'Murphy's Haystacks" (rock formations.)

As NeilnRuth said, Yorke Peninsula is quite nice, but if you want to be by the beach try 'The Gap', it's a free camp 10 minutes west of Weetulta, plenty of room with good long drop.
GPS Co-ordinates: -34.2357,137.5013.

Have fun where ever you may end up at night,

Geoff.

Point Lowly, Venus Bay, Smoky Bay, Wittelbee Conservation Park (magnificent spot) - all water/fishing related

As a matter of interest I took a run out to The Gap a few weeks back, it's a 15k dirt road from Weetulta, approx half of it corrugated, no facilities other than the toilet, which on talking to residents we were told was full and had been for over a weekashamed

There are two other sites mentioned in the area The Bamboo's and Tippara Rocks, don't even think about these in a motor home or a two wheel drive towing a van, very sandy track, the scrub has grown right to the edge of the track, we scratched the sides our Falcon wagon travelling along it.

Access to these spots from Balgowan is even worse, it's pretty much a goat track.no
