Letting off steam!

Grrrr furious

Some of you may remember that I bought the Go Cruise Navigator from Aldi last year. Well it died, so I returned it and got a replacement. All was good until a month or so ago, and this one died too. So today I took it back to Aldi to get a refund. I might add that I've worked in retail, and more particularly the refund/exchange counter, so I know the rules.

When I returned the first one, the girl gave me a replacement and marked it on the original receipt. I said 'shouldn't I get a new receipt'. 'No this is fine.' She initialled it and dated it.

So today I took it in and said this is the second one I've had so I won't bother again, I'll just have a refund thank you. She said I can't give you a refund without the box and this receipt is no good. I said the box doesn't matter, most people don't keep the box, and the receipt is not my fault. I said this is faulty goods, I have the receipt and you have to give me a refund. She just flat out refused, and said 'I have customers to serve' and turned away. I said excuse me, I am a customer and I want to speak to a manager. She said I am a manager. I was was fuming!!! I said this sin't the last you'll be hearing of this!

So I've just looked up the info about refunds and yes, I was in the right, and then I've written a letter to their head office. They don't have an email address on the site...weird...so I've had to print out the letter and I'll post it tomorrow.

Oh, by the way, I took note of her name too so I could dob her in. furious Now I have a headache from fuming....doh

Sounds like you had a bad time there Beth. Go have a nice red wine and relax in front of the TV maybe. I don't trust Aldi products apart from maybe SOME food stuff. I reckon they are cheap for a reason. I have a Navman and more than happy with it. A young bloke at work got one like your's and chucked it in the bin a couple of months later.

Look on the bright side Beth, you will be out in the play ground soon and I will try really hard to get some good weather on the go for you.

Lots of people I know shop at aldi and have no problems with their goods. I was a bit iffy about the navigator but thought I'll just return it if it's no good. No problem the first time.

I don't have any wine! Maybe a camomile tea. confuse

Good on you Beth! A lot of people would have given up, then that kind of customer disservice just goes on and on! Go girl!

hi Beth,  Note taken. until i hear a positive responsive to your refusal for a refund i will not shop at Aldi. At least if you buy something from Big "@" they refund. i also, have never heard of needing the "box that it came in" to return the article. by the sound of it, bad luck for me if my 2 heaters break, i threw away the boxes. good luck.

Why would they need the box back, they can't resell it can they. It doesn't work.
It won't stop me from shopping at Aldi. There are particular items I can only buy there so I stock up when I find an Aldis.
Beth's experience is not the norm, more the case of that particular store.

I think you're right Marj. Not the norm at all for Aldi. My son and sister have bought lots of non food items from Aldi and no problems. It won't stop me shopping there, but I'll be wary of buying electrical items again.

As for the box, apparently there's a particular manufacturers code on the box. She also wanted the warranty slip, but I know that that's not necessary for a refund. The receipt is your warranty.

Thanks Gerty, no, I'm too stubborn to give up on something like this. biggrin A dis-service like this really get my back up.

I've been at the hospital all day, having an iron infusion, so haven't had a chance to follow up yet. Hopefully tomorrow.
