car trailer behind motorhome


hi guys

 

dads thinking about getting a car trailer to go

behind the tardis to either tow my 5 door mazda 2 hatch (2004)

or smaller , so were not so restricted when we travel

 

any ideas?

My sister uses an "A" Frame Milo.  Must be easy to use, and reasonably light, as she's not built like a Truckie.  She has a little Getz that she tows behind her Motorhome.

just had an email from tiltatrailer.com , isnt the net great for finding out stuff!!
and they say the tardis will be quite capable of towing my small car or similar..

from the guys at tiltatrailer.com
our single axle trailer will carry mazda . It weights 300 kgs and can carry 1200 kgs . Your motorhome has a towing capacity of 1500 kgs so it is ideally suit for it . The cost of single axle trailer is $4050 ex bris . This comes with 12 mths rego and tie down straps

so thats, great.. if we can do this and get used to towing the car behind us , we'd be able to leave the tardis at the park and
go exploring the towns and attractions a lot easier etc

Sorry Milo.  Don't have a Video.   As I never intend to tow anything, I haven't asked my sister the details.

Just phoned her, and she says " Yes put it into Neutral, and have the Key turned to Accessories."

Wiring must also go to "A" Frame.

Using one of these, you only have 2 lots of Rego. and Insurance, instead of 3 as well. 

She might be on herself later.

Agree with Sheba "A" Frame has more going for it . When you get to you site just drop the car off put the MH in the spot draw two pins release the frame from car slip it into you through boot or under the MH ,( chained up of course ) and you off sightseeing . Trailers are another rego and a pain to store onsite or at home , have seen some serious vehicle damage done when loading and unloading car trailers. If going trailer go tandem wheel they two much better but are an added expense , tyres , rego and gen maint

It works just like you're towing a Caravan Milo.  The "A" Frame fits over a tow-ball just the same way.  Have another look at the very first Pic. on the 27th. July.  At the very front, you can see the piece that fits over the Towball.

In the Pic on August 1 st. you can see it attatched to the motorhome.

Be careful! Some cars these days are NOT suitable for A frame towing. One way or another the drive wheels have to be off the road. It has to do with gearing, diffs and transmissions.
The Getz may be suitable, but not all of these little cars are.
It's not like the "olden days" when you could slip anything into neutral and roll along.
What works for one won't suit another. It's all about personal choice and suitability.
If you're happy to tow that is.
The Tardis should handle one of these little buzz boxes easily.
Do your homework and you'll be a happy traveller.

The problem with those FWD MH they have limited tow capacity. Problem a mate came across when he was forced to pull to a stop on a gravel incline while towing was getting the traction to move off the mark.

Spoke to a few dealers at the Wauchope show this weekend and they all said if I intend to tow my Suzzie behind the MH get a rear wheel drive model which now limits the choice down

I have had an a frame from 2006 most of the way arounfd aust with out an problem just unhook the tow ball i use a tie down strap to keep it
up while i park my coaster bus drive the suzuki
were i want pull tow pin out and away i go dont have to park any trailers no rego light they were around $ 1500 back in 2006 but its
the way to go

 Hi Guys 

According to the Mazda website the heviest Mazda 2 weigh in at 1038 Kg. On a trailer you are not wearing out ( or maybe damaging)  the drivetrain, four tires and depreciating the vehicle with km registered on the odometer. This should outweigh the extra rego for the trailer IMHO

Just for your info Milo ..

I had the car and just needed to buy a suitable trailer .. a hyundai Getz, filled with fuel and basic essentials only was just borderline to fit legally on a (single axle) Tilitatrailer being towed by my Fiat Ducato .. Not happy with the margins, I chose not to tow a car trailer ..

I do however, tow a bike trailer which I find suitable for my purposes .. while happy in the main with the Fiat Ducato, I would not promote its "sub-frame" or "under-body" strength as being suitable for any heavy towing activity ..

my thoughts only ..
