Nanny, Dave is pulling your leg (you're probably enjoying it to)....To be a senior member you have to have been born on or before 1948, have a purple pension card, remember standing for the national anthem at the movies, know the words to "song of Australia" and recite verbatim episode 528 of Blue Hills & have 100 totally inane and ludicrous posts....
Oh and for those of you so inclined I now have available via email the "Blue Hills Theme" as a ring tone for your mobile phone....
Now Dave may be able to trace his ancestry back to the first fleet, alas the only famous ancestor I have to mention is the lady in the pic serving "Tea", Hilda, she is my aunt Nell (Nellie Lamport), now to win the trivia question who is the seated lady, you all should know her. No cheating, no googling "Who is the lady seated next to Basil's aunt Nell in the picture"......

Good Morning to all the other Grey Nomads... I guess I'm a "Newbie Senior Member"! smile
I want to add a magical spot to your lists:- Bendethra National Park in NSW. Horribly difficult to get to but wonderful once you make it. Theres an excellent spot to camp, great bushwalking, caves to explore if you're game, and a stream where you can swim in chest high water and see your toes clearly through the crystal clear water. (And nobody but a big goanna to see whether we were wearing any swimmers or not!)
Sadly there'd been a convoy of 4WD's there just before us, and they left plenty of evidence of their stupid indifference to the environment. hmm

Hello Rosey and warm greetings.... Bendethra, now is that in the back of the Brindabellas, I've been in there a few times, I did not see the perving Goanna though. Now tell us all did you or did you now wear suitable attire when swimming. Apart from Dave (who I suspect may be a little narrow minded or perhaps just practical) we all seem to enjoy going Au Naturel occasionally....
Maybe we should start another forum for "Naturist Grey Nomads" LOL....

curses, that damn Basil, fastest welcome in the west, narrow minded, all I'm saying is please carry a sign with you when contemplating skinny dipping, and place it not less than 100 mtrs prior to the horrid behaviour point,  something along the lines of "caution weird old nudie farts ahead, recommend detour for the young players extreme mind depravation immenent "   narrow minded indeed, Hmffffffff!!!!! Dave slinks away muttering to himself, going to to find that damn perving goanna, but over his shoulder throws a very warm welcome to another newbie

G'day all,

The magic place I have been, in a word,  AUSTRALIA. I know capitalised and bold lettering is considered shouting on a forum but I will shout Australia's praises from the roof tops if needs be.

Best Regards and Safe Travelling.
John

you are of course dead right John, we have travelled extensively and will again, but one tranquil memory was recent, we free camped at a lovely little spot just back from geelong, we were under a big old gum tree probably a couple of hundred years old and full of wildlife next to a babbling creek, across the creek there were acres of green with milking cows grazing in the foreground and trees in the distance we were probably about 10 miles off the highway so no sign of any other human being, just the sound of birds and bugs and slow moving water, we just sat and listened and soaked it all in for two days before we reluctantly packed up and moved on, it took a lot of doing to strike the camp, one does not have to go to some far and exotic position to find paradise in some cases it is right at your door

and yet you, like me, are doing our damdest to get away from it, we live beneath the foothills of the great flinders ranges, sea one side, mountains the other, people travel hundreds of miles to see that to which we escape from, sometimes I wonder, you are indeed a lucky man

G'day Dave,

You are correct, I am indeed a very lucky man but there is so much more of heaven to see and I sincerely hope we all get to see it before we have to leave.  Every day is like magic, it brings you something new and beautiful to experience, it's what keeps me young.

Best Regards and Safe Travelling.

Greetings All
How long does one have the honour of being a Newbie. Seems to make one feel slightly young again. Any way the most magical spot I can recall is first thing in the morning in the Echuca CP waking up to the sounds of the birdlife and the Paddle Steamers. The wife felt she could "put up " with that forever, untill she realised the winters get pretty cold. So we headed back to the more civilised temperatures of Northwest Qld. As an earlier writer put it, there are so many wonderfull places in this great country.

gday there slippery and welcome to you, ah echuca and the paddle wheelers yes brings back memorys, great little free camp just along there as well, all along the murray are fantastic spots winters down here for a banana bender can be cold but for us it's part of the campfire culture, to watch the mist roll in and the shapes of the various vessels coming through the fog, early in the morning magical times indeed

Bermagui....

Bermagui. First trip in the new van First trip with Gracie in the new van A recipe for disaster?  Well yes but it wasnt, Gracie behaved and quite enjoyed our break except that there was a humungous seal laying on the rocks that Gracie would have like to frolic with alas the seal did not want to play, nor in fact let Gracie even sniff it.We stayed at Zane Grey CP, which is pet friendly except in school holidays. We stayed on site 65, and the pick of the sites would be 60 to 69 but if you want a smaller site with spectacular views then sites 79,80,81 would be good. We could see the sea from our site and we were protected from the less than gentle sea breeze. Some nice places to eat, Sal****er would be the best place we have experienced seafood, the takeaway is very good, nice thin crispy batter on the fish and the Restaurant Food is though more expensive very good, I guess its the fresh local produce. The Asian Cuisine Restaurant is good too. Bazzas Hot Bread has a great selection of goodies. The Bermagui Mudworks pottery a few Km south of Bermi on the Cuttagee Rd has a very nice Café and we bought some nice mugs there.I did learn that those giant corkscrew things to tether dogs too only work for smaller dogs with less pulling power than Gracie as she simply pulled it out of the ground if she wanted to see what was going on elsewhere so a few tether points will have to be made to the Van Chassis. Also of note is the Bega Car & Dog Wash, I jest not for a few $ your pooch can be prewashed, rinsed, shampooed, rinsed, flea washed, conditioned and a final rinse while your better half is doing the carWe found the electric hotplate very handy and the electric hot water was also quite quick to heat up compared with the gas. The shower taps were very touchy and on dismantling same were discovered to have those elcheapo spongy washers that dont really allow accurate temp control, fixed now replaced the crummy taps with new stainless steel seat and proper dripless washers and I also placed some indicator dots on the taps so that you can see where you had them last time so that you dont use all the hot water trying to get the temperature right. I miss the flick mixer in the retired gin palace. We didnt try out the annex, leaving that for next trip to Tathra where a very rare CP is available, beachfront and pet friendly, where the receptionist informed me that she would rather pets than children, pets she explained did not vandalise things or write offensive graffiti in the amenities blocks.
I have attached some pics to whet your appetite....
