Water Pump Issue

If all the pipes where frozen, so was the pump. Good chance it was damaged when the water expanded as it froze.

Not the same cause but I had the diaphragm  in my Shurflo split. Bought a new pump. No problem,

Then I found out the local Produce/Irrigation place keep spares. They keep lots of spares because they use them in sprayers and other pumps on the farms.

Much cheaper than any other place I found including caravan places and Ebay. I found out all I needed was a new diaphragm.

Hope that would be all you need, If it has frozen and split.

We had some success with a Irrigation shop in Armidale last year when we had water problems, just a thought.

Camping in freezing conditions like Guyra it is a good idea to turn pump off at night time and open a tap to allow expansion in case it freezes.

To check pump power supply you need and should carry a 12volt test pen it has a needle point and a cable tail with a clip, simply clip to negative steel frame push needle point through cable insulation to touch copper cable. These units are less than $10. but only for 12 volt

RE: Water Pump Issue.

Thanks for that info JBDUBBO,

I suppose we were pretty naive in this whole situation.

We had never camped in such cold  before

Where would we purchase a 12 v pen from.

We have learned a very valuable lesson

Water Pump Issue

Ours did the same in Charliville last night (water didn't freeze and pump was still vibrating when turned on). Disconnected inlet to pump and backflushed the system to the tank now working , must have been a blockage between inlet of the pump and the tank. (some have an inline filter fitted.) so if you don't have a flow at the pump inlet no go they need a positive head pressure to work.

Pen is not a good term to be searching with if you were trying. This page has several contact voltage testers on it. Amongst then I would suggest Low Voltage Circuit Tester 6 - 12 & 24 Volts or 3-30VDC Tester with Voltage/Polarity Readout
